Getting a clean finish on car parts comes down to technique.

This video shows the correct spray speed and coverage when working around tight curves and difficult angles. Steady motion, consistent overlap, and even passes from start to finish. The Maxi-Miser® by ApolloSpray® gives you the control to get professional results on even the most complex parts. This is what a proper spray looks like.

The way you move the spray gun has a direct impact on atomization consistency and overall finish quality. One of the most common issues comes from relying too much on wrist movement instead of using your full arm.

When you spray primarily with your wrist, the angle of the gun naturally arcs as you move across the surface. This changes the distance between the tip and the workpiece throughout each pass. As a result, the spray pattern becomes uneven, with heavier buildup in some areas and lighter coverage in others. Even if your settings are perfect, inconsistent movement can create defects like striping, uneven sheen, or texture variations.

Using full arm movement keeps the gun more level and at a consistent distance from the surface. Your shoulder and elbow guide the motion, allowing the spray pattern to stay perpendicular and evenly distributed across the entire pass. This consistency is what helps maintain proper atomization and a uniform finish.

It also improves overlap. With a steady, straight pass, your 50 percent overlap remains consistent, which is critical for blending each pass seamlessly. Wrist-driven spraying tends to exaggerate overlap in some areas and reduce it in others.

That said, the wrist still plays a role in small adjustments or tight spaces. The key is balance. Use your arm for the main motion and your wrist for minor control, not the other way around.

When your movement is controlled and consistent, your atomization stays consistent too, leading to smoother finishes and fewer corrections.

Before any great finish comes proper gun maintenance, and it all starts with knowing how to take your spray gun apart. This quick breakdown shows just how simple disassembly really is with an Apollo Sprayers HVLP spray gun. No complicated steps, no special tools, just a clean and straightforward process that keeps your equipment running the way it should.

Keeping your gun clean is what separates a flawless finish from a frustrating one. Stay tuned because we're walking through the full cleaning process step by step, and the full tutorial is up on our YouTube channel. Link in bio!

Optimizing spray speed without sacrificing finish quality comes down to control, consistency, and the right setup. It is not about spraying faster, it is about spraying smarter.

Start by dialing in your equipment. Proper atomization is key. If your sprayer is set up correctly, you will get an even, fine mist that lays down smoothly even at higher speeds. This means using the right tip size, pressure, and material viscosity for the job. When those are balanced, you can move quicker without creating runs, orange peel, or uneven coverage.

Next, focus on technique. Keep a consistent distance from the surface and maintain a steady hand speed across each pass. Speed fluctuations are what cause defects, not speed itself. Overlapping each pass by about 50% ensures uniform coverage, even when you are working efficiently.

Also, pay attention to your environment. Temperature, humidity, and airflow all impact how material dries and levels. When conditions are right, coatings flow out better, giving you more flexibility to increase speed without compromising the finish.

Finally, practice and rhythm matter. Experienced sprayers develop a natural cadence that balances movement and material flow. Once you find that rhythm, you will be able to increase productivity while still achieving a professional, high quality finish.

The maintenance steps that get skipped are usually the ones that do not feel urgent in the moment, but they are exactly what determine long term performance and finish quality.

One of the most overlooked steps is thorough cleaning, not just a quick rinse. Material buildup inside the gun, tip, and filters can slowly affect spray pattern and pressure consistency. Taking a few extra minutes to fully flush the system and inspect components prevents small issues from turning into costly problems.

Filter maintenance is another big one. Clogged or partially blocked filters restrict flow and create inconsistent spray output, which often leads to unnecessary adjustments during a job. Regularly checking and replacing filters keeps everything running smoothly and predictably.

Lubrication is often ignored as well. Spray guns and seals rely on proper lubrication to reduce wear. Skipping this step can shorten the life of your equipment and lead to performance drops that are hard to diagnose in the moment.

Finally, routine inspections matter more than people think. Checking seals, hoses, and connections for early signs of wear or leaks can prevent downtime and ensure consistent performance day after day.

Staying on top of these small, often skipped steps keeps your equipment reliable, your finish consistent, and your workflow uninterrupted over the long run.

In a room filled with paint, pressure, and high-end equipment, one system still pulls your attention.

That is Apollo Sprayers in action.

Watch how clean and controlled the finish lays down with heavy body coatings like Renner. This is where precision matters most and where HVLP technology proves its value. More control. Less overspray. A finish that speaks for itself before you even pick up a sander.

Built for craftsmen who care about the final result, not just getting material on the surface.
Less waste. Better control. A finish you can stand behind.
