Labor Day has always been about more than a day off.

Its roots reach back to the late 1800s, when America was being transformed by industry. Railroads stretched across the country. Steel reshaped our skylines. Factories expanded. Bridges, roads and buildings connected growing communities—and behind all of it were American workers and skilled tradespeople.

The first Labor Day celebration was held in 1882, and by 1894, it had become a federal holiday honoring the contributions of American workers.

More than a century later, we still see that legacy all around us.

The tools have changed. Technology has changed. The way we design, fabricate and build has changed.

But one thing hasn’t:

It still takes skilled people to turn an idea on paper into something real.

As a company rooted in architectural metal fabrication and construction, we’re proud to be part of an industry that continues a very old American tradition—building the places where people live, work, learn, travel and gather.

This Labor Day, we celebrate the generations of American workers who helped build this nation and those who continue that work today.

A great weekend for a great cause!

Carros Metal Concepts was proud to sponsor the Kids Win Disc Golf Tournament benefiting Speedway Children’s Charities at EchoPark Speedway.

Josh Finbar represented the Carros team on the course and had the opportunity to take part in a fun weekend supporting an organization that gives back to children and families in our community.

Thank you to everyone who organized, sponsored and participated in the tournament. We were glad to be a small part of it!

The drawings show what’s designed. The field shows what’s actually there.

Before fabrication begins, field verification helps our team document existing conditions and account for the details that can affect how exterior systems come together.

Using tools like our laser scanner, we’re able to capture information from the field—including areas that may be difficult to access or conditions that are more complex to measure.

Because what’s shown on paper and what exists in the field don’t always match exactly.

For our team, understanding those conditions is an important part of the work that happens long before the finished panels go up.

Before fabrication continues on the custom metal screening at our Cargo Loop project in Savannah, our team captures the structure using FARO laser scanning technology.

The scanner records the as-built conditions of the steel frame, creating a highly accurate digital model of the structure as it actually exists in the field. From there, our team uses that data to refine the fabrication drawings so the custom panels are produced to fit the real-world conditions on site.

For this project, the screening structure will eventually become a distinctive architectural feature visible from the highway. The lower section will be clad with single-skin metal panels, while the upper section will feature custom perforated panels that will create the project’s finished design.

It’s a step most people will never see, but it’s one that helps ensure everything comes together as intended long before the finished product is on display.
