CAREER OPPORTUNITY!!!!!

Venice Auto Marine Inc has an immediate opening for a qualified person. Primary focus will be Cylinder Head rebuilding. Full valve jobs, surfacing cylinder heads, setting up spring pressures, setting lash, cleaning and inspecting for damage, etc. Brand new Rottler SG9MTS cylinder head station will be at your disposal. All the latest tooling for precision seat cutting.

Will also be handling disassembly of engines for the beginning of the rebuilding process. Oven baking and shot-peening, jet washing of parts, bead blasting parts in preparation for painting, etc. Based on knowledge, possibly engine assembly will also be part of the daily regiment. The more you know the more you get to do!

We are the busiest machine shop on the West coast south of Tampa. No shortage of work! We are continuously 3-5 months backlogged on full engine builds. Classic car rebuilds to high performance engines is what we do. Airboat and offshore boat powerplants. Also everyday engine repair, lots of cylinder head work.

Requirements:

Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Cast iron heads and crankshafts are heavy and physically stressful. For blocks we have overhead cranes.

Must demonstrate the ability to read dial calipers and micrometers. This job is nothing but measurements.

Must be prompt and wear the appropriate attire. Steel toe boots, long pants, no jewelry, no long hair. These machines are dangerous and have no remorse when injuring you.

Must have a strong constitution. This is a machine shop not a daycare.

Must take the utmost pride in your work. We have an excellent reputation and plan to keep it that way. We do it right or we don't do it!

This position is a 4-10 schedule Mon-Thurs. 6:30 to 4:30.

Pay will be based on knowledge. Demonstrate you can do the job and the compensation will come.

Please send resumes to the email on our page.

Please share this with whoever you believe has what it takes to successful.

Finally was able to write a program for stroker clearancing a small block Ford for a 347 rotating assembly. The 347 has a stroke of 3.400 which gets into the bottom of the cylinders with I-beam rods. Some do it by hand, we used the Bridgeport before now, all manual. With the Rottler EM45 it's now a button push and every cut is uniform. Setting up the program is a little nerve wracking because that's a very large end mill, if the parameters are not correct, BAD THINGS HAPPEN IN A HURRY!!!. We use a piece of aluminum tig rod to run it through the cycles on setup so that any OOPS doesn't kill the block and can be adjusted. Such an awesome machine!!!!

That there is a Packard straight 8 flathead cylinder head. At 35 inches long we had to get it above the 4-axis headstock in order to surface it. 016 to clean it up flat, pretty warped and a little twist. Once clamped down and leveled it's easy breezy.

Two Clevelands in one build room! Not likely to see this again anytime soon. 351 Cleveland engines were only manufactured from 1970 to 1974 so kinda makes them a rarity 50 odd years later. The one on the right is out of a Mustang and the other is for a Pantera. Both ends covered sota speak. The intake ports on these are enormous there by allowing them to really come alive upstairs in the RPMs. Phased out in favor of the Windsor platform they faded into history. In the 8 years I've worked here these are the only 2 full builds we've had the shop, what are the chances they'd be here at the same time. Maybe a lottery ticket is in order?

Ok kids we just got a new fixture plate to accommodate Chrysler Hemi on the Rottler EM45, so now you modern Hemi freaks get the benefit of CNC accuracy! This special kit is needed because the Hemi cam journal extends above the 4th axis face plate and it costs as much as a decent used car!!!!! But when you need it you gotta bite the bullet, so here it is. Time to get to work paying the bill that Rottler conveniently stuffed in the package lol. Already surfaced a 6.1 S**t Pack block. Pretty decent overall from the OEM only requiring .008 the square and flatten the deck. More over the guarantee that the surface is straight for proper head gasket seal. Next up is a 6.2 Hellcat block that needs a sleeve due to a meltdown in No 2 cylinder. That one is slated to make a 1000 at the crank, so surfacing is a must especially after a sleeve is installed.

Some ask why we spent 150k on a new CNC bore and surfacing machine with the 4 axis attachment, here's a great reason. Being able to square up block deck surfaces since the OEM machining is absolutely horrible, especially LS. You would think in the 21st century they'd have it figured out but NOPE! Blue dyed the deck surface to show the inconsistency after the first pass and every pass there after. Each roughing cut is taking .003 with a .001 finish pass. The pictures show each individual side and the corresponding passes. As you can see they are not flat and definitely not square to the crank/cam centerline. First information screen shows the high and low after the probing process which indicates .006 difference. After that the driver's side needed a little more so an additional .003 was taken on both to keep them the same. The second probing shows the new differential is .0004. All this helps make sure the cylinder volumes are as close to being the same as possible, making for a smoother running engine producing maximum power. Truly is an incredible machine that benefits us as a rebuilder and you as the customer. They say you get what you pay for, at Venice Auto Marine you're paying for the best!!!!

Sometimes we have to use multiple setup plates to get the job done! Milling this SBC manifold took 3 different fixtures because the correct angle couldn't be gained any other way. 90 degree angle plate bolted to the sine plate bolted to the cylinder head surfacing table. The manifold needed .025 cut off each intake surface due to the mounting holes being misaligned with the heads, happens to be a problem more often when building custom engines. It'll get pre-fitted again and more may need to be cut off and this process will start all over again! It's what we do!

One more today and I'll shut the hell up!!! Please for the love of God if you're gonna install an MSD ignition system, MAKE SURE YOU DON'T POWER IT THROUGH THE FACTORY BALLAST RESISTOR, THEY DON'T LIKE IT!!!!. Built this 512 Big Block Mopar awhile ago and the customer said it never would run right. Reported that it would sneeze and backfire through the carburetor and ignition box would get really hot. Finally after no luck remedying the issue we told him to drop it off so we could look at it. Normally we don't work on the cars themselves but when a customer can't solve the problem we will get under a hood to do a little diagnostics. After all we built the engine and want to make sure there's nothing odd going on with it! Figured out they had power running through the resistor which on the OEM ignition was perfectly fine and designed to run that way. MSD, which stands for Multiple Spark Discharge, requires full voltage to properly run on a continuous basis. So we did a little rewiring and now she's one nasty little b@ #$h. It ought to put a grin on the owners mug now!!!

Video of our new Rottler SG9MTS seat and guide machine. Pretty slick how it tells us by flashing the light that the target depth has been met ensuring each valve seat is cut to the exact same depth. This keeps the valve tip height within a few thousandths of an inch which helps with keeping lifter preload the same across all of them!
