LEA/G&L hosted a Surveying Field Day for the local homeschooling community on December 10th. Over 30 students from kindergarten through 12th grade were able to learn what modern surveying and mapping are all about. We conducted demonstrations of the equipment used in surveying including metal detectors, a transit level, GPS robotic units, and an aerial drone. Students were given opportunities to practice pacing to estimate distances and key in a plat from a legal description in Autocad. We gave real world applications of coordinate systems and geometry principles as they relate to surveying. It is our hope that this event will encourage some of these students to pursue a career in surveying and engineering as our community continues to build and grow.
