University of Illinois International Programs in Engineering

IPENG is a part of the College of Engineering that strives to help students gain global awareness through studying abroad.

As a signature program of the college, International Programs in Engineering offers students opportunities to develop intercultural sensitivity, understanding, and skills by studying or working abroad. Significant financial incentives are provided and students can choose from a number of short-term trips as well as summer, semester, or year-long study-abroad programs to enrich their academic experience without extending their time to graduation. An International Minor in Engineering is also available and requires language proficiency and at least six weeks abroad. With knowledgeable staff and assistants, IPENG continues to serve as a great resource to engineering students as they proceed to make international connections through their study abroad experience and academic career at UIllinois.

Gain hands-on research experience at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), a leading science and engineering university in Switzerland. Work alongside top researchers in a cutting-edge lab while experiencing a new culture!

Eligibility: Grainger Engineering students with at lwas a 3.5 GPA
Requirement: Attend a required advising session - find dates on One Illinois

While there is a secondary application window for Spring 2027 study abroad (September 15), that deadline does not include all programs and generally offers fewer benefits (e.g., eligibility for scholarships). Therefore, if you are interested in studying abroad next Spring, we HIGHLY recommend you submit your application NOW! ‼️
