Here is another video clip from SEAmagine’s latest Submersible Pilot Training session in California. During a 300m training dive, the submersible encountered an unusually high number of Dumbo Octopus on the seafloor, far more than we typically observe in this area of the Pacific. The training dives also included operations at a nearby shipwreck site in shallower water, providing pilots a good training environment.
The training session was for a team from Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST). SEAmagine offers scheduled Submersible Pilot Training sessions throughout the year in California.

A great training session in California with the team from Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology during SEAmagine’s recent Submersible Pilot Training Program. Thank you to the KIOST team for the professionalism, enthusiasm, and great collaboration throughout both the theory and practical dive sessions. It was a pleasure having you train with us. This short video highlights some of the different phases of the training program.
We look forward to welcoming more future pilots to upcoming SEAmagine training sessions.

Great short clip from 550m deep showing an octopus hunting for its next prey. Once again, incredible colors and fascinating life from the deep ocean aboard a SEAmagine submersible.

A brief look at the different environments we experience diving a SEAmagine submersible in shallow water compared to deeper water…always fascinating.

Sharing a clip from a fun shallow dive near a reef in Palau. Shallow dives and deep dives are always fascinating but very different. Same ocean, completely different world!

A short clip from a 500 m dive in Palau and just shows that even on the dark blue seafloor, moments of unexpected color and life appear when you least expect them.
That’s what makes underwater exploration so fascinating!

We’re excited to introduce the Arronax Advanced Control System, now embedded in SEAmagine’s Aurora submersibles.
Developed with W. Michael Zintel and already proven aboard SEAmagine’s 3 person submersible Argonauta with National Geographic Pristine Seas, Arronax delivers precise, stable, and intuitive maneuvering for complex underwater operations.
A key feature, “Wall Mode,” eliminates forward prop wash, maintaining clear visibility and minimizing disturbance to marine environments during close range work.
It is a real game changer in how we pilot our subs, enabling more intuitive control and clearer observation of reefs and delicate ecosystems.

A short clip from a series of 1000 m dives we conducted in Palau aboard a SEAmagine submersible.
What continues to stand out is the unexpected color and richness of life at these depths, along with the constant presence of marine life. In most cases, the animals simply carried on, seemingly undisturbed by our presence, while occasionally a few approached with clear curiosity, as seen here.
As always, the camera captures only a fraction of the experience. What we observed firsthand was far more detailed and immersive than what any video can fully convey.

Clips from another 1,000m dive with the SEAmagine submersible in Palau.
We were greeted by several tripod fish (Bathypterois grallator) standing on the seafloor and facing directly into the current. A fascinating sight. These deep-sea fish orient themselves into the flow, using their elongated pectoral fins like sensitive antennae to detect vibrations from passing zooplankton and small crustaceans.
For those who are interested, the water temperature at depth was about 4.5°C, while at the surface it was around 29°C. A clear contrast between surface and deep ocean conditions.

This is some great footage from a 1,076 m dive in Palau, where we found a surprising abundance of sea life. The Dumbo octopus was amazing to see, along with eels and sharks.
At that depth, you really feel honored to be there, visiting a part of the ocean that remains largely unknown.
Great dives!
