THIS IS WHY I LOVE THIS BUSINESS!
A great customer of ours with a 39 Contender called with problems throughout the boat: screens that lagged and shut off, a Seakeeper that kept dropping out, and a radar that would not power on. He also wanted a vessel tracking system to reduce his insurance premium.
We started with the network instead of the hardware.
The NMEA 2000 backbone had a third terminator on it (a backbone only takes two, one at each end). The extra terminator was disrupting data flow to everything connected. We removed it, tightened and tie wrapped every loose connection, and labeled every network cable on the boat for future service.
On to the radar. Both ends of its data cable were corroded, so we cut them back and crimped new connectors. Still no power. We pulled the radar, took it to our shop, and found it was working fine. The problem was on the boat.
We took the radar back to the boat, measured amperage along the entire run from the pedestal down to the panel, and found a corroded fuse. We replaced it and the radar came back online.
Before we left, we installed a Marine Guardian tracking system, fixed a few stripped screws throughout the boat, wiped the entire boat down, and put the covers on.
THIS WAS ALL IN ONE DAY!
Before you replace equipment, call us to have your wiring and network checked.
Thanks to an amazing customer for another great opportunity to showcase the quality, speed and care we have here at Langer Krell.
