CITY COMMISSIONER GOALS:
My intentions or goals in becoming a City Commissioner are:
* First and foremost is to see infrastructure improvements & maintenance, such as streets, sidewalks, curbs, and utility needs
* To ensure the city staff, including police, fire, and public works & all other departments, have the necessities to keep our city safe and maintained
* Improving the appearances of our city, especially the Hwy 59 Corridor West
* Continuation of getting run down & dilapidated structures removed
* More aggressively pursuing new industry to our city, especially to the vacated Shannon Industrial Pipe Plant Facility
* Prioritizing needs of projects, current & future, and determining whether the budget can afford what's being proposed
EXPERIENCE:
Because of my experience on the Atchison Planning Commission, I am aware of the needs and concerns facing the Atchison Community and am committed to serving the citizens of our community. My background in facility maintenance & equipment will be an asset in making decisions on numerous repair items that will come before the commission for approval or denial. I will treat every decision affecting the city budget as if the expenses were being paid out of my own pocket. HISTORY:
I was born in Atchison, KS, the youngest of three children, to Floyd & Thelma Robinson. My sisters are Gail Robinson Purcell and Susan Robinson Draper. I attended Franklin Elementary School & Atchison Junior High School until my parents retired and moved to Downs, Kansas. I graduated from Downs High School and North Central Kansas Area Vocational Technical School in the field of plumbing, heating, and air conditioning. I worked in facility building maintenance in an adult nursing care center as the Environmental/Maintenance Supervisor. I later relocated back to Atchison for employment with the City of Atchison Water Filter Plant as a Class III Operator. When an opportunity with Atchison Public School's maintenance department opened twenty-three years ago, I accepted the position and it became my career. I am currently the Director of Maintenance for the USD 409 School District, serving in that capacity for the last four years. FAMILY:
I am blessed to be married to Belinda Robinson for twenty-two years. She has been employed with the Atchison County Appraisers Office for twenty-four years. Between us, we have three daughters: Miranda from Downs, Kansas, Kayla, from Hutchinson, Kansas, and Nichole, from Haven, Kansas. Together, Belinda and I are proud grandparents of Chloe, Steven, Brooklynn, Carter, Addy, Aubrey, and Austin. ORGANIZATIONS:
I have been a member of the Atchison Elks Lodge since 1993 where I have served as Chaplain & Lecturing Knight. I am also an auxiliary member of the VFW Post 1175 where I volunteer in as many ways as possible. In 2011, I joined the City of Atchison Board of Planning and Zoning Commission, currently serving as Vice Chairman.
