Hope your day is full of treats, sawdust, and projects that turn out scary good.

No matter what you’re carving, be it pumpkins or wood, we hope you have a chance to make something fun. And if you happen to make a few frightfully straight cuts along the way, even better. We all want to sneak in a little shop time
between trick-or-treaters. Just remember, measure twice, cut once, and keep the ghosts out of your grain.

Some people believe you aren’t really a woodworker until you’ve mastered complicated joinery, built fine furniture, or reached some imaginary level of expertise.

ShopSmith CEO Andrew Deutsch couldn’t disagree more.

In the newest episode of Straight Cuts, Andrew asks a simple question: what actually makes someone a woodworker? His answer is equally simple. If you’re working with wood, you belong.

Build a shelf. Repair a cabinet. Make a table. Drill a hole. Start small. Learn as
you go. Most importantly, have fun doing it.

Woodworking shouldn’t be a club where someone else decides whether you
qualify. From the ‘wood-curious’ to experienced craftspeople, we’re all part of
the same community.

The ShopSmith team is getting ready for DIY CON 2026, and we’re loading up the MARK 7, specialty tools, and plenty of gear for the trip to Fair Park.

But this won’t be a “stand around and look at the machine” kind of show. We’re going to build an actual project… live, demonstrating what the MARK 7 can do while turning raw materials into something real right on the show floor.

Andrew Deutsch has heard the criticism: why spend time on merchandise, accessories, and other new ideas when there are bigger business issues to solve?

In the newest episode of Straight Cuts, Andrew explains why that’s a false choice. ShopSmith can develop new products, expand the brand, and have a little fun while simultaneously fixing supply-chain issues, keeping products in stock, supporting customers, and building great woodworking machines.

No company can do everything… but we can do a lot. And there’s a lot more coming.

ShopSmith will be there demonstrating the MARK 7, building projects live, and showing why one versatile woodworking system can be such a great way to begin your maker journey. It’s also a perfect opportunity to introduce younger builders to hands-on learning and the pride that comes from turning an idea into something real.

ShopSmith is back from Des Moines, and CEO Andrew Deutsch has a few things to say about the experience.

In the newest episode of Straight Cuts, Andrew talks about how the fine woodworking community reacted to the MARK 7, and how seeing the machine up close helped challenge some long-held assumptions about the ShopSmith system. Turns out, the MARK 7 has plenty to offer even the most serious woodworking shops.

Andrew also shares stories from the show, some of the great companies and people the team connected with, and a few interesting collaborations that could be on the horizon.

That’s a Wrap on Woodworking in America 2026!

What a FANTASTIC show! We had such a great time here at the Woodworking in America 2026 conference. Everyone was so welcoming and Des Moines is beautiful! The show is over, the booth is coming down, and we’re packing up the truck for the long ride back to Dayton.

We met a lot of longtime ShopSmith owners and introduced new woodworkers to the MARK 7. Ideas were shared with fellow makers and industry experts, and we connected face-to-face with the entire woodworking community.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by the ShopSmith booth, attended Andrew’s presentation, asked questions, shared stories, and spent a little time with us in Des Moines. And a special ‘thank you’ to the organizers, presenters, exhibitors, and everyone behind the scenes who made this amazing event possible.

We’re heading home energized, inspired, and even more excited about what’s ahead for ShopSmith.

The truck may be packed, but all the inspiration is coming home with us.

Day Two is Underway!

We’re back on the show floor in Des Moines and ready for another full day of woodworking, conversations, demonstrations, and connecting with makers from across the country.

One of today’s highlights is ShopSmith CEO Andrew Deutsch’s presentation, “Bringing Shop Class Back to School.” It’s a topic that speaks directly to something we care deeply about; helping introduce new generations to woodworking, hands-on learning, and the satisfaction that comes from building something yourself.

The energy here has been incredible, and we’re enjoying another great day with everyone who has stopped by to meet the team, see the MARK 7, and share their own ShopSmith stories.

Day One is a Wrap!

We had a great day here at the Woodworking in America 2026 conference in Des Moines.

The ShopSmith team shared how the MARK 7 is not only the best drill press on the market, but also excels at horizontal boring, woodturning, and just about anything else a modern woodshop needs.

The team met a lot of great folks and there were excellent presentations for the entire crowd. Tomorrow CEO Andrew Deutsch will present his keynote “Bringing Shop Class Back to School.”
