A great employer
Savji Dholakia, the founder of Hari Krishna Exports, a diamond company in Surat, India, built a reputation for the way he thanked his staff. Every Diwali he handed out rewards to his employees, and over the years those gifts included cars, apartments and diamond jewelry.
In one of his biggest years he rewarded workers with 1,260 cars and 400 apartments. The rewards were tied to performance and years of service, his way of recognizing loyalty and hard work rather than handing out ordinary bonuses.
Dholakia left school around the age of 13 and started out cutting diamonds before founding the company in the early 1990s. He has often said he treats his employees like family, and has even sent their parents on holidays as a thank you.
