Dear sweet apple tree, I was worried that I lost you to the hard cold winter. I would have understood though, if you had decided enough was enough, and I would have kept you as a giving tree. I could have used your branches as hooks for my favorite tools and I definitely would have wanted your spurs to go on anchoring those lacey spider webs. I probably would have cried a good hard cry, because losing you would be like losing a kindred spirit. But you did not die! Look! Here you are, waking up late! It is only that you slept in. What relief! But now I must scold you to quicken as I just heard my first bumble bee. She and her kind, the pollinators, need you terribly right now. Please my friend, come on back, gently, kindly, and friendly, like you always do , but grow quickly, the bees are waiting.

The last photo is of my cherry tree that I planted from the seed of one of Neil Wagners Montmercy Cherry trees that one time I beat the moose to his cherries. I picked enough for 2 pies and kept 5 extra cherries to plant.

Hey Seldovia!

I would love to get my hydroponic vegetable system back into the hands of Seldovia's children. Is your Non-Profit, Community, or Educational organization interested? I would provide the equipment, the set up, the training, limited assistance with curriculum and troubleshooting. Your organization would need to commit to housing the equipment and to having one or two champions of the project who can provide daily oversight. Together we can get the equipment going as soon as January. Contact Rosanna directly for more information.

I think that this apple could feed my neighbors; the Democrats and the Republicans, the Christians, the Jewish, the Buddhists and the Scientists. I think she would taste sweet to the addicts, to the mentally and chronically ill, and to the cheerful optomists. I think she'd be a welcome snack for my neighbors with depression, those with too much anger, and those with hearts full of grief. She grew through the summer with the bees, the spiders, the flowering carrots, the pumpkins, the onions and the sweet lavender. She grew in the sun and she grew in the rain, and she grew with me. I love her. I love her for reminding me how lucky I am to live in a place where it is so easy to know how much more alike we all are than different. Let me practice the opposite of division. Let me and the apples from my tree bring people together and not apart.
