The Butler Basketball Club was founded in Newport, RI in 2016 by Randy Butler and his wife, Janetta Donovan to bring youth, law enforcement, and the community together through basketball. The club’s first major event, a fun and friendly tournament with Aquidneck Island law enforcement officers teamed with local youth, drew large crowds and has been an annual event ever since.
Basketball programs are offered for youth ages 5-18. The club accommodates a wide range of skill levels, offering everything from youth camps and beginner-friendly leagues to advanced, skill-focused clinics and college-oriented tournaments. There are successful competitive AAU travel teams with regional and national exposure.
Through these basketball programs, its positive role models, and support from families, board members, and volunteers, the youth develop confidence and a sense of self-worth. They build character traits such as discipline, responsibility, respect, leadership, and teamwork that lead them to give back to the community. They participate in Butler Basketball Club’s Community Service and Outreach Initiatives: back-to-school events, winter and holiday programs, youth-led service projects, and community partnerships with local nonprofits, banks, churches, and schools.
In addition, Island Life Skills, a program through Butler Basketball Club, educates students in grades 4-12 on financial literacy, job readiness, home responsibilities, health and safety, and more. This program is free and open to all in the community, not just Butler Basketball players.
Butler Basketball Club’s mission is to develop strong, confident, and community-minded youth through basketball, life lessons, and service. Join us as we support their programs to achieve this important goal! For more information, visit www.butlerbasketballclub.leagueapps.com.
