You choose the style that works for your space.

🌱Want just a few seedlings of each variety? Go with the 6-cell; you can grow multiple types in a small footprint and move each one outside as it matures.

🌱Looking to grow a large quantity of the same thing to plant out all at once? Our basic 72-cell is a low-cost choice for mass plantings.

🌱Not sure exactly when you will be able to plant out your transplants? Go with our air-prune trays. The extra root space and air-prune technology lets you hold the plant longer in the tray without sacrificing root health.

Head to the comments for a link to our video that covers all three.

If that wasn’t you, it could be.Our usa-made trays, pots, and domes are 10% off right now through Oct. 31.

Challenge accepted! Can you grow pea shoots without soil in a mesh tray? We documented a two-week grow using a Bootstrap Farmer 1020 mesh tray, from seed to finished tray.

A commenter told us their peas either dried out or rotted when they tried growing without soil. They challenged us to show the seeds germinating instead of jumping straight to the finished tray. So we did.

Watch the full two weeks to see how it turned out.

Not all fall crops get planted at the same time. Brassicas like kale and cabbage take their sweet time, while leafy greens like lettuce can wait a few weeks.
This is because lettuce matures so quickly that we want to wait a bit for the temperatures to get close to what the plants need to do their best growing.

Do you know which cell tray size your fall crops need? Some, like cabbage, kale, and brussels sprouts, take longer in the cell before they are ready to move outside. Some need to be potted up while you wait for summer crops to finish. Bigger cells and air-prune trays give your plants more wiggle room to grow their roots.

Is it over 100 degrees where you are too? We are starting our seeds now, indoors with controlled, cool conditions. Why? Because we want big, healthy roots by the time it is finally cool outside. Low daylight hours in the fall mean our plants won't have the time they need to get big if we wait. Early growth means our fall seedlings will be strong enough to hold on by the time frost hits.

Fall seed starting means it's time to start thinking backwards. Starting seeds indoors provides seedlings with the consistently cool temperatures they need early on. When outside temperatures stop swinging and cool down, your plants are ready to go outside.

When deciding whether to direct sow or start in a cell tray, it's important to consider this question.

Carrots form a taproot and don't like being moved. Beets and radishes can be, but they're quick crops that aren't worth the tray space, labor and watering, so they go straight in the ground.

Drying Roselle (also known as Hibiscus Saffrida) properly takes a little time. It is worth it though; we promise.
🌺The variety of things you can make with this delicious and healthy flower will make the extra harvest time well worth it.

Ten years ago, Bootstrap Farmer started as a bootstrapped farm. That's where our name comes from.

Now we're turning 10, and we want to help three growers bootstrap their farms.

We will drop the link to enter in the comments. Tell us about the farm or garden you're bootstrapping, what you're growing, and how a hoop house would help. Our team will read every entry and pick 3 winners on November 3.

Entries close October 31 at 11:59 p.m. CT.

No purchase necessary. Open to legal residents of the 48 contiguous U.S. states and D.C. who are 18 or older.
