Here's something we're proud of. Introducing The Welcome Mat Project, by Uncle Mats.

A mat is the first thing that welcomes you at a door. Four times a year, we're going to donate a custom logo mat to a deserving local organization, free of charge, just to brighten their front door and say thanks for the good they do.

Florida’s rainy season starts in June. If you manage a building in South Florida, your entrance mats are about to face 5 months of daily afternoon thunderstorms. A standard 3x5 entrance mat can handle normal foot traffic. It cannot handle 200 people walking through standing water in a parking lot after a 2-inch downpour. I hear this a lot. But when I ask what kind of mats, the answer is usually the same one at every door — indoor and outdoor.

Here’s the thing: indoor and outdoor entrance mats do completely different jobs.

Outdoor mats are built to scrape — heavy rubber, aggressive surface texture, designed to knock off mud, gravel, and debris before it ever enters your building.

Indoor mats are built to absorb — moisture-trapping fibers that capture the fine dirt and water that made it past the front door.

Using the wrong one in the wrong spot means it’s not doing its job. An indoor mat outside will deteriorate in weeks. An outdoor mat inside won’t capture moisture and will feel rough underfoot.

The best approach? Both. One outside the door, one inside. That’s the foundation of a proper entrance matting system.
