Been siting on this old jersey for some time now, and honestly can’t remember why I never posted it! Hand filed edge, and a little small (2.75 lb head, but marked as a 3.25 lb), but fit up with a new handle and ready to get back to work!

Had to do something nice for this old blade. Blacked out Crocodile leather inlay on cowhide leather sheath. Matte black hardware to match, and even did some hand stitching on this one.

I think I’m going to have to keep this one…
C. Hammond is one of my favorite axe makers, simply due to their high quality and age. Their method of axe construction is also very intriguing to me. This head is no exception, and what makes this axe super special is the year stamped under the makers mark. Not necessarily the age, since it was an aftermarket stamp, but I can hope, and it makes sense given the construction. Not often you find an old axe with the year of manufacture on it!

Wowee Wednesday - check out this 5.5 lb splitter. Huge Dayton head, hung on a vintage hickory stick with a purpleheart wedge. Heavy enough that it was hard to hold onto for photos.

Feels good to get some of these axes worked on that looked just too far gone when I got them. I think this one turned out great. For anyone that tuned into my live last week, you saw how bent out of shape this one was. Decided to reprofile and grind it back straight, rather than hammering back into shape. I know some of you won’t agree, but I actually do really like the new profile.

Swedish splitting axe hung on a vintage hickory handle. Not too often I see these. Got this one in a trade a while back.

Who else knew that JC Penney ‘made’ axes?
Well, they sold them, at least. I believe it was Mann Edge Tool Co that actually made them for Penney’s.
