Did you know mistletoe is a parasite?
As the holidays approach, so does Mistletoe. You may notice as your leaves fall, this deceptive, bright green plant appears. Behind the romantic tradition lies a tree killing parasite.
Fact One: Mistletoe is in fact a parasite. It steals nutrients and water directly from the cambium layer of the tree, while the tree is dormant (sleeping). It can become invasive and kill your tree if it is not treated.
Fact Two: It spreads its seeds through bird p**p. The word mistletoe is actually derived from the Old English words for "P**p Twig" (Romantic... right?)
Fact Three: If the grinch had a favorite plant, it would undoubtedly be mistletoe.
