June is PTSD Awareness Month, a time to recognize the challenges faced by many veterans, service members, and their families. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event, and it affects thousands of veterans across the country. Seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness, and understanding PTSD can help reduce the stigma surrounding mental health care. At Swisher Memorial Healthcare System, we encourage our community to support those who have served and to help raise awareness about the resources available for veterans and their families. If you or someone you know is struggling, know that help is available and no one has to face PTSD alone.

Every Blood Donation Can Save Lives 🩸

Did you know that on this day in 1667, French physician Jean-Baptiste Denys performed the world's first documented human blood transfusion? He transfused approximately 12 ounces of sheep's blood into a feverish 15-year-old boy, who remarkably survived.

Fortunately, blood transfusions have come a long way since then. Today, donated blood plays a critical role in modern healthcare, helping accident victims, surgery patients, cancer patients, individuals with chronic illnesses, and many others in need.

Yesterday, June 14, communities around the world celebrated World Blood Donor Day, recognizing the generous individuals who donate blood and help save lives every day. Their contributions ensure that hospitals and healthcare providers have the blood supplies needed to care for patients during emergencies, surgeries, and ongoing treatments.

One blood donation can help save multiple lives and make a lasting difference for patients and families facing medical challenges.

Thank you to all the blood donors who help keep our communities healthy and strong. Your generosity truly makes a difference.

Happy National Red Rose Day!

Celebrated each year on June 12, National Red Rose Day honors the red rose as a timeless symbol of love, care, and compassion. As roses reach their peak bloom during National Rose Month, it's the perfect opportunity to brighten someone's day.

If you have a loved one who is ill, recovering from surgery, or simply in need of encouragement, a bouquet of red roses can be a thoughtful reminder that they are loved and supported. Sometimes the smallest gestures can provide the biggest lift to a person's spirits.

Today, consider sharing a red rose—or a kind word—with someone who could use a little extra care and comfort.

From all of us at Swisher Memorial Healthcare System, we wish you a beautiful National Red Rose Day!
