Customer contacted us for repairs on a horse trailer. Little did we know that there was quite the story behind the reason it was brought to us for repairs! I talked with the owners of the horse trailer and had them bring it by for an inspection and to address the issues that they had. Once the trailer arrived and I spoke with the owner, I was given the story and the reason it was in our facility. My jaw dropped when I was told that their was a brand new Horse in the Brand New to them trailer that had fallen through the floor. The horse was dragged along in the trailer but through the floor with no chance of survival on I-10. So it was 60-75 mph for a certain length of time until the owner realized something wasn't right. Well it was catastrophic! The horse was put down by DPS immediately. The situation was Traumatic for all involved!
So the Horse Trailer is a used trailer and was Not inspected before use! The trailer was hooked up, horse loaded and on the way just like the majority of people would do! She trusted the previous owner and his word. BAD MOVE FOR ANYONE!
PSA!!!!!!!!!!!! Dont ever trust anyones word until it is professionally inspected! That's for Anything you purchase! This was preventable in everyway possible!
I found many many issues from rusted out steel to beyond warn out suspension parts, wheels and hubs loose, etc. Broken frame areas and broken and torn welds. I had my work cutout for me on this one!
I have rebuilt this trailer chassis and floor to withstand pallets of bricks, steel, concrete, etc. The Clydesdales can ride in it now!
This trailer now has all brand new lippert equa-flex suspension, bronze bushings, heavy duty leaf springs, extra heavy duty wet bolt greasable shackle kit and hangers, all new steel channel and heavy angle iron cross sections, and brand new 2x8 planks double carriage bolted and capped with angle iron at the front and the back so the horses do not tear anything up getting in and out. I fixed and rebuilt the interior horse divider to work and swing properly and the tack door on side of trailer. The gooseneck will eventually be replaced, but for now has safety chains welded on it that were never there in the beginning. It also has a new adjustable screw jack to raise and lower trailer as needed. All wheel bearings and seals were replaced, repacked, new stainless cotter pins, castle nuts installed
I personally road tested this trailer and gave it ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ. All animals will be safe for travel moving forward.
When she posted the ad for repair on FB there were quite the few individuals piping up that stated they could do what we do in our facility, on the fly, mobile, or in their garages. (kinda like the hold my beer syndrome) I am glad they chose us and our facility to do it correctly. We have all the proper equipment in house to do it right the first and only time!
GET THINGS INSPECTED!!!!!!!!!!!!
