A take-off sounds complicated. It's really just a list.

It's what happens when someone goes through a set of plans and figures out exactly how much lumber, sheathing, and hardware a job needs before anything gets ordered.

A good take-off saves you from two problems. Running out mid-build, and having a pile of extra material sitting around when the job's done.

The more detailed the plans, the more accurate the take-off. Missing dimensions or unclear framing details usually mean guessing, and guessing costs money either way.

We build ours differently. Cofer has an onsite door shop in Tucker, so units get put together locally instead of shipping from somewhere else.

That means fewer delays and more control over accuracy.

Last Friday, a few of our guys traded the yard for the golf course.

Cofer Brothers was a Bronze Sponsor of Tee Off Fore MS, a charity golf tournament at Heritage Golf Club here in Tucker.

The event raised over $20,000 for the National MS Society.

Good cause, good company, and a good excuse to see who actually knows how to swing a club.

Thanks to Heritage Golf Club and everyone who helped put the event together.

Framing lumber is not one-size-fits-all.

Grade tells you how strong a board is and what it should be used for.

Select Structural and No. 1 grades go where strength matters most, like beams and long spans. No. 2 grade covers everyday framing. Stud grade is for vertical framing, not long spans.

Using the wrong grade in the wrong spot can cause problems later.
