The NJAPA will be hosting a series of educational webinars and events during January and February, 2025. These classes are being provided in conjunction with the Asphalt Institute with each webinar qualifying for 1.5 hours of continuing education with NJSAT. For registration information, email Stacey Lindenmuth at [email protected]
Basics of Asphalt Binder Webinar - January 23, 2025 - 10am - 11:30am
This webinar provides a general introduction to asphalt binders, covering the following topics:
• constituents of asphalt binders
• physical properties,
• how asphalt binders behave
• preparation for testing (sampling, heating, and splitting)
• asphalt binder tests and specifications
• modified asphalt binders
• asphalt emulsions and cutbacks
• asphalt binders used in roofing
Who Should Attend
The webinar is intended for participants who want an elementary understanding of asphalt binders without spending more than 90 minutes in training. At the conclusion of the webinar, participants should have a general understanding of what asphalt binders are, how they behave with temperature and time of loading, and how they are used. For more in-depth training, please see the Asphalt Binder Series and Introduction to Asphalt Rheology.
Prior to the webinar, you will receive a link to the program. There will be no refunds after January 16, 2025. This webinar qualifies for 1.5 NJSAT hours.

Basics of Asphalt Mix Design Webinar - February 13, 2025 - 10am - 11:30am
The laboratory asphalt mix design process has progressed through the years from a simple recipe approach to a more detailed analysis procedure to ensure an adequate volume of air voids and asphalt binder for stability and durability. Asphalt mix design classes, offered by the Asphalt Institute, are usually 3-5 days in length and feature hands-on laboratory experience as well as detailed classroom instruction. This webinar provides the student with a basic overview of the purpose, tests, and analyses needed to conduct an asphalt mix design. While not a prerequisite for attending an Asphalt Institute Mix Design Technology course, the webinar can provide a base level of understanding that may benefit students wishing to attend a more detailed lab-based mix design course.
Who Should Attend
This webinar is intended for an audience of technicians and engineers who are relatively new to the field of asphalt materials and are interested in learning the basic steps and tests used in an asphalt mix design. Sales and marketing students will also benefit from the overview of the asphalt mix design process.
Prior to the webinar, you will receive a link to the program. There will be no refunds after February 6, 2024. This webinar qualifies for 1.5 NJSAT hours.

Best Practices for Quality & Smoothness Webinar - February 20, 2025 - 10am - 11:30am
The paving operation is a critical part of the construction of a high quality and smooth asphalt pavement. It is important to understand the paving process; materials and how they affect the operation, proper operation of the equipment, and the use of best practices in order to obtain a durable, smooth-riding pavement that meets all the standards of quality construction.
Topics to be discussed are:
• Addressing deficiencies in the underlying material
• Tack coat best practices to ensure pavement layers are well bonded
• Paving equipment selection to adequately handle plant production
• Consistent and uniform flow of mixture to and through the paver
• Use of best practices to set up and operate the paver
• Placement without temperature or physical segregation
• Improving joint density
Who Should Attend
This webinar is designed for technicians, engineers, materials suppliers, contractors, consultants, academia as well as federal, state, city and county officials and inspectors who are interested in learning more about quality asphalt construction.
Prior to the webinar, you will receive a link to the program. There will be no refunds after February 13, 2024. This webinar qualifies for 1.5 NJSAT hours.

Understanding Pavement Distress Webinar - February 27, 2025 - 10am to 11:30am
All pavements deteriorate over time. Understanding the different types of pavement distress and what causes those types of distress is a fundamental requirement in order to design, construct and maintain a quality roadway.
This webinar will cover:
• Pavement distress investigation
• The cause(s) of common asphalt pavement distress types
• Pavement design elements necessary to resist premature deterioration
• The effectiveness of different maintenance strategies on various distresses
Who Should Attend
This webinar was developed for those involved with design, construction and maintenance asphalt roadways. It is intended to focus on areas critical to maximizing asphalt pavement performance and life. Agency, consultant, supplier, and contractor personnel at all experience levels will benefit from this webinar.
Prior to the webinar, you will receive a link to the program. There will be no refunds after February 20, 2024. This webinar qualifies for 1.5 NJSAT hours.
