ATTENTION! The wait is over! The new water tower has passed all its tests and will be permanently activated on Tuesday, August 18th. It will take time for the tank to fill, so pressure will increase slowly - but increase it will. The old tank provided pressure of 50-55 psi. The new tank will provide 71-77 psi. Because actual pressure at your house can vary, you should expect a 15-20 psi jump in pressure.

Townsend Hardware still has 1/2" and 3/4" pressure regulating valves that we're selling for cost + $0.50 until the supplies run out. A great many people have taken advantage of that and, as a result, the city passed the pressure test a month ago with flying colors. No residential problems were reported that I know of. Keep in mind that test filled the tank, then shut off the main valve. So houses were only under full pressure for less than an hour.

Also remember that the Rotary assistance program is still available! If you or anyone you know are in need of help installing a pressure valve, pick up an application at Townsend Hardware. Rotary is offering assistance equal to 50% of the bill up to a maximum of $200. Please read the full instructions on the application.

If you do encounter any problems, or happen to see something (like water in the street you don't think should be there!), please contact City Hall immediately! Your courtesy will help the City greatly!

On August 3rd, the City of Helena, Local Government proclaimed "Passenger Rail Day," honoring a history that runs deep. The first locomotive arrived in Helena on June 13, 1883. Just months later, on September 8, 1883, the Northern Pacific's "golden spike" ceremony connected the transcontinental railroad west of the city, an event attended by former President Ulysses S. Grant and later immortalized in the "Driving the Golden Spike" mural inside Montana's Capitol.

Helena's historic passenger depot was designed by Charles A. Reed, the same architect behind New York's Grand Central Terminal. That legacy, and the city's 2017 resolution supporting the return of passenger rail service, set the stage for today's work.

Mayor Emily Dean's proclamation recognizes Big Sky Passenger Rail and our partners as we advance the Big Sky North Coast Corridor and strengthen regional passenger rail connections across Montana and the Greater Northwest.

History pointed the way. Now we're building what's next.
