The City has announced that the mid-june test for the new water tower is **PROJECTED** to happen the week of June 8, 2026. The weather can play havoc with the painting project so while the City is anticipating that date, Mother Nature can delay it. The City and Townsend Hardware will keep everyone updated as we get closer to the date. The test is a fill (about one day), pressure tests (1-3 days), and a drain (about one day), so please plan for higher pressure during the week (that this actually occurs... disclaimers!). Please remember to thank 🤩Townsend Rotary🤩 for their generosity! They're providing grants to help our fixed- and low-income residents with installing pressure regulating valves. Applications and information about the grants are at Townsend Hardware or you can email me at [email protected] and I'll send you one via email.

We would like to thank the Townsend chapter of Rotary International for stepping up to help the fixed- and low-income members of our community during this period of preparation before the new water tower is activated. Rotary is providing a grant of 50% of the cost of pressure regulating valve installation up to $200. Townsend Hardware will be the front-end for this process and will have an application form available to interested parties beginning tomorrow, Tuesday May 19th. If you prefer not obtaining it from the store, you can send us an email at [email protected] and we'll mail you a PDF file. If you have questions, you can contact JB at (801) 690-5462.

It has come to my attention that there is a Facebook post about the Toston Bridge. Many comments in that post are INCORRECT. Sorry for the long post, but the FACTS matter. Here are the FACTS about the demolition of the bridge.
Over the last 4 (maybe 5 years) , the safety of the bridge has been discussed at Commission meetings. Area residents have worked INCREDIBLY hard to learn about the issues, they have talked to MDT, and attended meetings in hopes of saving the bridge. I have met with MDT and many residents one-on-one to save the structure. I admire the dedication of these residents, and we were ALL hopeful that it could be saved. MDT and the county sent experts to photograph and examine the bridge. This has all (pictures included) been presented at public meetings over a few years. I believe there were articles in MT43NEWS about the efforts to save the bridge. Many hours have been spent researching grants to save the bridge. The efforts of residents and the commission were intense. NOBODY WANTED THE BRIDGE DEMOLISHED!!!

After several years, meetings, reports, etc., it was determined that the bridge needs to be demolished. I am writing this from home, so I don't have the files with me, but it was many many millions to save it (IF IT COULD BE SAVED)

MDT is paying for the demolition and all related expenses to the project. NOT THE COUNTY.

I saw comments about making it a walking bridge and other ideas. The bridge is NOT safe. In hindsight, it should have been maintained better. Hopefully, lessons have been learned.

There is an agenda item on the commission meeting next week, "Floodplain Permit for Toston Bridge," That is one formality in the process. It is NOT a chance to save the bridge. In addition, that agenda item may be tabled because the permit may not be complete by next Wednesday.

I believe the social media post that started the controversy is a slap in the face of the residents who worked tirelessly to save the bridge. They went above and beyond, and I THANK THEM.

A top priority of a Commissioner is public safety, and that goes beyond the Sheriff's Office. That includes making sure the bridges are safe for you and your family. If you have questions, please reach out to me on Monday.
Thanks for your time. Debi

This might be a once in a lifetime opportunity! The Military Vehicle Preservation Association's 2026 Convoy will stop in Townsend on August 2nd early- to mid-afternoon next to Heritage Park. Expected are 45 military vehicles that will be available to the public for viewing. Due to the nature of the convoy, this priceless vehicle show will only be available for 30-60 minutes. Yup, that's a pretty narrow window! We're hoping to have a more precise time as we get closer to August 2. This is a great way to finish off our 250th Independence Day activities! Share this will all your friends and keep your eyes and ears open for that specific time!
