Protecting sensitive equipment requires more than a rugged case. Long-term reliability depends on every component - from the shell and seal to the liner, latch, and pressure relief valve - working together as a complete protection system.

In the mid-2000s, Pelican patented a more integrated approach to protective case design, engineering these elements as a unified enclosure rather than a collection of individual parts. Over the course of ’26, this series will revisit the patents and engineering breakthroughs that shaped injection-molded and rotationally molded cases —innovations that elevated protection and redefined industry standards.
 
One of those early breakthroughs emerged from rotational molding innovations pioneered by Hardigg Industries (later acquired by Pelican). Foundational patents focused on reinforcing how cases were constructed, introducing embedded features for handles, hinges, and latches that dramatically improved strength and impact resistance.
