If you know me, you know I’m a sucker for 40 degree shoulders. Had a rain out last week and decided to chamber a 223 ackley for myself with an old take off barrel I’ve had on the shelf for ages. 10 shot group of 77smks at 2880. No load development. Just threw 1 grain over 233 book max of cfe223 and seated .010 off the lands. Did some load work up with 80gr amaxs too and they’re gonna be promising as well. If only I could get these stubborn ELD-VTS to shoot. We’ll work on them a bit more.

Had the pleasure of doing a 457 for a good friend of ours recently. Presented a lot of challenges being a thermal fit barrel and dual extractor grooves. Bartlien 12 twist finished at 24” straight taper at 1.100”. Our buddy managed to take it out the first day he had it back and win a night match with it!

Our good friend and hunting partner’s wife reached out about doing a custom rifle for a birthday gift, a short 8 week lead on this X-Caliber Barrels & MFG 20” carbon fiber 8 twist. We chambered it in 6creed on a Aero Precision solus in a GRAYBOE phoenix with a Timney Triggers 517. A couple rounds down the bore and it’s definitely a shooter! Next years thermal season can’t get here soon enough!

Rough day for everyone at the Great Plains Precision Rifle Range club opener in the wind but we managed find more steel than the next guy. This X-Caliber Barrels & MFG 7 twist 5R 223 blank really hammers the 75eldms at 2925. Gotta keep the tac class gods happy with speeds under 3k. Fresh Bell and Carlson for the season that my kids help paint. Same ole American Rifle Company, Inc. nucleus that’ll never do wrong. Bushnell DMR3, Timney Triggers HIT. Makes a great combination. Let’s see if we can keep the season in the hardware.
