It is with deep sadness and profound respect that we remember Tom Hansen, a founding partner of FWH Associates – originally Flannery, Webb and Hansen. From the firm’s inception in 1989, Tom was a steady force, a sharp mind, and cornerstone of the values we continue to uphold today. Those who worked with Tom knew him for his sharp intellect, a vocabulary that could rival a thesaurus, and opinions as unyielding as they were passionately delivered. His grumpy demeanor became something of a trademark around the office – equal parts endearing and intimidating. But beneath that gruff exterior was a heart bigger than most. Tom was the kind of person who would grumble his way through helping you but help you he would – without hesitation. If you needed something, Tom would give you the shirt off his back, probably with a sarcastic comment – but always with sincerity. A brilliant land surveyor, a dedicated partner and a loyal friend, Tom’s influence is deeply woven into the foundation of our firm. He retired in December 2016, but his spirit, values and stories never left these halls. His legacy lives on in the way we approach our work - with integrity, honesty and the occasional well-placed grumble. We are grateful for the years we shared with Tom and the indelible mark he left on all of us. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Rest in peace, Tom.
You were one of kind – and we wouldn’t have had it any other way.
