Summer travel is coming—and so is the annual “my trip is Friday” regulator panic.

If you want a calm start to your vacation, don’t make your regulator service a last-minute gamble. Yes, we offer Express Service. No, you shouldn’t need it.

Why early service matters

A freshly serviced regulator still needs real-world time:

seats break in

O-rings settle

you do a pool check and confirm everything feels right before you’re on a boat.

The part nobody plans for: supply chain

We keep genuine kits in stock, but the global supply chain isn’t static. Manufacturers can change tiny components without warning. It’s rare, but a brand-new kit can fail our digital flow tests—or a specific part for an older reg can go on backorder.

Avoid the scramble: follow the 3-Week Rule and leave room for verification.

Planning a dive trip? Don't wait until the last minute. Supply chain delays and "settling" parts mean you need a buffer. Learn the "3-Week Rule" for safe gear prep.

A lot of gear problems do not start as dramatic failures. They start as small warnings that are easy to ignore.

A regulator that hisses a little after pressurizing. An inflator that feels sticky. Hoses that are getting stiff or cracked near the fittings. A dive computer battery that is suddenly less trustworthy. A regulator that just does not breathe like it used to.

Those are usually not random quirks. They are signs your gear may be asking for service before your next trip.

This latest SGS post walks through five common warning signs and why it is better to deal with them in the garage than on the dock.

Read it here: https://scubagearservice.com/five-signs-your-gear-needs-service-before-the-next-trip/

At Scuba Gear Service, the goal is simple: help divers catch small issues before they become trip problems.

Most dive gear does not fail all at once with an obvious warning. It usually gives smaller signs first. A slightly sticky inflator. A regulator that feels just a bit different than it used to. A hose that looks a little tired. A computer battery that is “probably fine for…

100 Days of Reef Fish
Ugly Fish 9/10: watercolor painting of a Painted Frogfish, Antennarius pictus. Some frogfish, especially juveniles, are ugly in a cute way. But the individual in the reference photo for this painting? Not so much. Painted frogfish can have small, warty bumps and/or scabby patches and/or eye-like spots that mimic the texture of sponges. This guy had all of those plus a very unappealing color scheme.

100 Days of Reef Fish
Ugly Fish 5/10: watercolor painting of a Crocodile Flathead, Cymbacephalus beauforti. This ambush predator is a master of disguise. The pale, frond-like structures on its eyes help break up the iris for camouflage.

Happy Easter from Scuba Gear Service!

As spring arrives and Easter approaches, V and I wanted to send a quick note from the workbench.

There may not be any chocolate eggs hidden in our regulators, but it is always satisfying to see the dive community getting back into a more active rhythm as the waters begin to warm.

This time of year is a reminder of what makes diving special: the anticipation of the next trip, the chance to discover something new underwater, and the confidence that comes from gear that is ready to perform when it matters.

We’re grateful for your trust and for the wider dive community that makes this season such a good one to be part of. We hope your Easter is filled with good company, some time to relax, and maybe a few treats as well.

Wishing you and your family a Happy Easter,

Rob & V

When I went looking for a replacement for my old A.I.R. Flow Test Stand, I was facing a practical problem: it was no longer made, increasingly difficult to maintain through operating system changes, and harder to repair because replacement components were no longer stocked. What I found was that I could not find a modern system that really fit the job.

Most available options still treat regulator testing as a series of separate checks. They can give you a reading, but rarely a picture of how the regulator is performing across multiple measurements at the same time. I wanted something better: precise digital capture, integrated measurement across multiple sensors, and direct connection to the back office so the data stays associated with the equipment and the service performed.

So, with help from a friend, I built one.

The result is more than a new bench. It is a better service system. It records synchronized performance data, measures regulators as dynamic systems instead of isolated readings, and carries those results forward in the context of the actual equipment and work performed.

That was the real goal from the start: not a new gadget, but a better service process.

For years, my A.I.R. Flow Test Stand did exactly what I needed it to do. It gave me a way to measure regulator performance with more than isolated gauge readings. It let me capture flow, vacuum, intermediate pressure, and tank pressure together, as a test event, and preserve that record…
