I picked up some new wrenches yesterday and today. I have a list on my phone of sizes that I don't have and every time I go to a pawn shop or when I'm browsing Facebook marketplace, I look for wrenches that I need. I can now scratch 1-7/16", 1-13/16", 2-3/8", and 2-1/2" off my list.

I made a quick run up to my supplier this morning to grab some hose ends. Some are replenishments for the ones I used a few days ago, and a few of them are NEW items going into my inventory! I made lists of hose ends that I need to stock. When funds allow, I grab a list and go get them. Slow progress is still progress. I REALLY need a software program to help me keep track. I only want to stock 2 each of some hose ends, 4 each of others, and as many as 10 or 12 of the more common ones. The problem is, I forget the predetermined numbers in my head. It only gets worse as I increase my inventory!

A few hoses I made for a new customer for a bucket truck. I forgot to take a picture of the first hose that I made for him. It was the same configuration as the 1/4" hose pictured here....just 4" shorter. I still have at least 2 more 1/4" hoses to make for truck. I'm grateful for the opportunity to help someone out.

I saw an ad on Facebook the other day for hydraulic hoses. The lay line on the hose said "A USA COMPANY" , so I thought I would check them out. I called to check prices and availability of some specific hoses. The guy I spoke to said that 1 particular hose I inquired about should be on the "next ship". I'm not bashing the company, but I try to support U.S. companies selling USA made products. I have heard that some of the Chinese made hydraulic hose is pretty good quality, while some is not. I try to cut my cost, so that I can offer better pricing to my customers, but I don't want to sacrifice quality and testing standards, either. I mentioned in an earlier post about switching to a different manufacturer of hose because the hose I had was a US company, but manufactured in Mexico. It was good quality but it really bugged me that it didn't say made in the USA. I'm proud to be an American and try to support American made products.

I picked up a can for oily rags. I have been wanting to get one for a while, as I don't want a fire to destroy my truck. When this one showed up on Facebook marketplace for $20, I had to go get it. Now, I just have to figure out where in the truck I am going to put it!

I bought a retractable hose reel for my truck a few months ago but it wouldn't fit, plus I was having other complications with running the air lines underneath, so I decided to install the hose reel in my shop at home. I ended up having to use an NPT swivel adapter and T fitting off my truck to complete the install.

I just spent a few hours out in my truck creating numerous small lists of hose ends that I need. In the process, I noticed that I had 2 line items of the same hose end, each with a different quantity. Of course I had to check my storage cabinet to see what I actually had. Upon opening the drawer and finding suspect item number, I discovered that I had a female hose end in the bag with male hose ends. I sorted that out, verified the quantity for each, and updated my database on the Square app. I also deleted the duplicate line item entry. I'm not sure how I made the error in the first place, but I know without a doubt that it was my mistake. Hose ends are made Male and Female....that doesn't change, even if I put a female in with the males, it's still a female.....or vice versa.

I added a little more inventory today. It wasn't a lot of quantity, but every little bit helps. I did add a few new items as well as replenish inventory that I had expended from making some hoses earlier in the week. I also found a good deal on some AW-46 hydraulic oil on Marketplace yesterday and picked up a few 5 gallon buckets.

Had a regular customer call me this morning, needing some 3/4" hoses. I didn't take any pictures of the completed hoses, but I got him taken care of. I'm also waiting for a phone call to go look at a man lift that needs a new hose running through the boom.

I just got my new inventory added. I now have a total of 113 line items of hose ends. There's probably about 100 more line items that I need to get. Little by little, I'm getting there. The more stuff I add to my inventory, the more I wish that I had a better software program to manage it all. It's quite time-consuming to have to do it all the manual way. When I was a Storekeeper in the Navy, we had to do manual physical counts for inventory, but the "system" kept track of what was expended on a daily basis and created order lists based on preset high and low stock parameters. I am now the system and, sometimes, I don't remember what I told myself that the high and low levels should be.
