According to CDC data from 2023, the rate for male automotive repairers was 50.6 per 100,000, while a detailed study on the CDC website placed the rate for specific automotive technicians as high as 80.6 per 100,000, significantly higher than the general population.

Highest Risk Industry: Automotive repair is consistently ranked among the top industries for su***de, alongside construction and mining.
High-Risk Demographic: The majority of su***des in this sector are White (non-Hispanic) males between 46 and 55 years old.
Contributing Factors: The high-stress, physically demanding nature of the work—which often involves chronic pain from injuries—is a major factor, along with higher rates of firearm access and lower rates of mental health treatment.
