Why do gas regulators ice over? ❄️

When high-pressure gas drops to a lower pressure, the temperature drops too. This is called the Joule-Thomson Effect, and it can cause regulators, valve bodies, and other pressure points to frost or ice over.

Once equipment freezes, gas flow can be restricted or stop completely which is why directed heat matters.

One small component can make a big difference in heater safety.
Our shutoff valve is designed to work with the thermocouple to stop gas flow when the heater is not properly heating. After the problem is resolved and the correct temperature is restored, the valve can be manually reopened.
