Interchangeable parts changed American manufacturing. The American System of Manufacturing helped move precision machine tools from early fi****ms production into clocks, sewing machines, bicycles, automobiles, and beyond. Today’s materials have changed, but the demand for precision has not.

American manufacturing helped connect a continent. The First Transcontinental Railroad required standardized tools, parts, and precision across thousands of miles. That same focus on scale and consistency still matters in the work American manufacturers do today.

Defense manufacturing leaves no room for weak links. Every component must meet strict requirements. Every tool must help hold the line on accuracy, consistency, and reliability.

GWS cutting tools support American defense manufacturers machining titanium, Inconel, composites, and other demanding materials used in critical aerospace applications.

Built for American aerospace. Built for what America builds.

In 1819, Thomas Blanchard helped change what machines could do. His copying lathe made it possible to reproduce complex, irregular shapes with greater consistency. More than 200 years later, American manufacturing is still built on that same push to solve hard problems.

Carbon fiber is strong, light, and essential to modern aerospace manufacturing. But drilling it cleanly is not simple.

CFRP can delaminate, fray, chatter, or produce inconsistent hole diameters when the wrong tool is used. That can affect fastener fit, part strength, inspection results, and scrap.

In our latest blog, we look at how the GWS HTDR-CF Drill Reamer was engineered to help aerospace manufacturers produce clean, repeatable holes in CFRP and other non-metallic materials.

Rhode Island has deep roots in American manufacturing.

After the rise of America’s first water-powered mills, the state became a major center for machine tools, precision lathes, and milling machines.

That history still matters. Today, GWS continues that tradition with cutting tools made for the industries America depends on.

In 1938, an American metallurgist changed machining forever. Philip McKenna’s tungsten-titanium carbide discovery became the foundation for the solid carbide cutting tools still used across aerospace, defense, automotive, and manufacturing today.

Every solid carbide end mill, drill, and reamer starts with that breakthrough. American manufacturing has always been driven by precision, innovation, and the people willing to solve hard problems.

A $500,000 scrap problem does not get solved with an off-the-shelf tool.

A major aerospace manufacturer was dealing with chip contamination and rejected parts caused by countersink depth inconsistency. GWS engineers developed a custom Posi-Stop Countersink with an automatic depth stop that eliminated human error and stopped the scrap problem completely.

One custom tool. Zero rejected parts.
