Haas VR-9 5-axis VMC with Articulating Spindle Head reduces machining time on molds from days to hours...

Machining large molds with multiple cores, "Went from 3 to 4 days, down to 3 to 4 hours," states Matt Antoine, owner of Mallory Pattern Works, while talking about his shop's Haas VR-9 5-axis machining center.

The Haas VR-9's articulating 2-axis spindle head allows Mallory Patter Works to keep large mold blocks stationary on its 84" x 36" table and index the cutting tool around the workpiece, vs moving the workpiece around the head. In a single set up, they can machine the cavity face, the sides and the ends of the mold block.

Owner, operator, and motorsports enthusiast Antonio Brown of Automotive Engineering recently made some major changes to his machining operations to optimize his role as business owner / sole machine operator. Identifying the need to increase runtime and reduce setups led him to replace his fleet of three Haas mills and one lathe with just two machines, a VF-2SSYT mill integrated with a 3+1 Pallet Pool and a UMC-750SS 5-axis universal machining center.

In this Haas Insider video, Antonio shares how his new pair of Haas CNC’s, with a focus on automation, has boosted his overall output by 30% with 50% of the spindles.

Family owned job shop in Indiana has 30 Haas CNC, some of which are 25 years old!

Established in 1997, Metalcraft Precision Machine is a 2nd generation, family owned and operated job shop with over 30 Haas CNC’s in use. According to co-owner Chris Utz, his father Don Utz purchased his first Haas in 1999 and has continued to invest in Haas mills and lathes for nearly 25 years.

Chris Utz shares some history about Metalcraft Precision Machine and reviews several of the jobs currently being machined on their wide range of Haas mills and lathes.

Established Ohio Job Shop Embraces 5-Axis Machining...

Like so many established job shops today, Northwood Industries Inc. recently took the leap into 5-axis machining, with the purchase of three Haas UMC 5-axis universal machining centers, a UMC-1250 and two UMC-1000's. The trio of large capacity 5-axis mills come more than a decade after Northwood purchased their first Haas, a VF-6 in 2009. According to Kurt Miller, President of Northwood, the 5-axis Haas UMC’s allow Northwood to get to cutting chips quicker and help them to achieve the accuracies they need in a shorter amount of time.
