Memorial Day, we pause.
Not for the sales.
Not for the extra day off.
Not for the cookouts or the beginning of summer.
We pause for the ones who never made it home.
For the men and women who put on a uniform knowing there was a chance they would give everything for people they would never meet.
For the families who received folded flags instead of homecomings.
For the children who grew up with memories instead of moments.
For the empty seats at dinner tables and the names etched into stone that time will never erase.
Memorial Day is not just about remembering death.
It is about honoring sacrifice.
The kind of sacrifice that gave us the freedom to wake up safely, speak freely, love openly, worship how we choose, and live the lives we often take for granted.
There is no way to truly repay a debt like that.
The best we can do is remember.
Remember that freedom was never free.
Remember that bravery is not the absence of fear, but the willingness to stand anyway.
Remember that someone else carried the weight so we could carry on with ordinary life.
So today, while we gather with family and friends, may gratitude sit a little heavier on our hearts.
May we speak their names.
May we honor their memory not only with words, but with the way we live our lives.
Because somewhere beneath every flag waving in the wind
is the story of someone who gave everything for this country.
And they deserve to be remembered. 🇺🇸
