Drawings become steel. Stringers cut to length, treads laid out, and every piece fit, squared, and tacked on the table before a full weld goes down. Measure twice, fit it tight, check it again.

Nothing leaves our shop until it's dead on.

Meet Clyde: border collie, shop dog, and self-appointed supervisor at Montgomery Metal Works. If you're not moving fast enough, he lets you know. If you take a break, he stares. You know the look.

Clyde had a rough few weeks after getting a little too close to some tin. Because, of course, he was right in the middle of everything. A few stitches from Dr. Andrew Lovelady at in Notasulga and some forced time off (which he absolutely hated aside from napping ON THE BED), and he's baaaack. Already herding the crew (2 and 4-legged) around like nothing happened.

Nobody at MMW hustles harder than this dog. Nobody. 🐾

Every staircase we build starts the same way: on paper.

Over the next week we're walking you through a commercial stair job from the first drawing to the final step. Part 1 is the part nobody sees. Site measurements, rise and run, load requirements, code checks, and a set of drawings that has to be right before a single piece of steel gets cut.

Get it wrong here and no amount of good welding fixes it. Get it right and install day runs like clockwork.

Before we cut a single piece of steel, it gets drawn. Full shop drawing sets - dimensions, connections, every piece labeled. It's slower on the front end and it saves everybody money on the back end, because nothing gets fabricated twice. This is a stair set that went out last month, start to finish. Question for the barn owners: what's the ONE thing you'd change about your current barn if you could do it over? Aisle width? Stall fronts? Where the water spigot ended up? We ask because we hear the same three answers over and over, and they're all fixable on the front end. Tell us below - we're taking notes.
