We are excited to welcome Schmidt Ocean Institute's new vessel Falkor (too) to the SAMOS initiative’s active recruitment roster. Distribution of Falkor (too)’s preliminary, intermediate, and research quality SAMOS processed files begins with her data collected on 18 September, 2023 in the Galapagos region. Falkor (too) replaces SOI’s original (and much-loved) vessel Falkor, which was operational in SAMOS from 2013-2021. The ‘too is both a younger vessel, having been built in 2011, and a longer one, at 363 feet in length, than was the Falkor (built in 1980, 272 feet in length). With an updated and expanded host of meteorological and near-surface oceanographic instruments on Falkor (too), we look forward to even more high-quality data collection from around the globe. Here’s to our continued partnership with SOI!
