The Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital pediatric campus has opened its doors to the Outpatient Center, marking an exciting milestone for this transformational project.

We’re proud to have been part of a team dedicated to creating a space centered on the needs of children, families, and the community, and it’s rewarding to see the full campus now up and running.

The sports courts are officially ready for play at Balfour Park!

AHBL's Spokane landscape architecture and civil engineering teams provided planning and design services for improvements in the park, including the new pickleball and basketball courts. It's exciting to see these enhancements complete and ready to serve as a gathering place for recreation and community connection.

At AHBL, we believe in investing in the next generation of industry professionals by creating opportunities for mentorship, learning, and hands-on experience. We’re passionate about helping students build their skills, explore their interests, and gain the confidence they need as they prepare for their future careers.

Each summer, we’re fortunate to welcome a talented group of interns to our team. This year, six students joined us across the firm, and we had the pleasure of learning about a few of their experiences, the projects they contributed to, and the lessons they’ll carry with them into the next chapter of their careers.

If you've noticed several school projects showing up on our feed lately, you've already gotten a preview of what's coming.

Over the past few weeks, we've shared milestones from projects like Renton High School, Lowell Elementary School, Alki Elementary School, and Leota Middle School Phase I, highlighting the educational environments that help students learn, grow, and thrive.

Now we're excited to officially kick off Back-to-School Month at AHBL.

Throughout September, we'll be celebrating the schools, educators, students, and communities we serve through:

• Educational project spotlights from schools across the region
• Behind-the-scenes stories from Maritime|253 Skills Center and the upcoming A4LE tour
• Workforce development and internship stories
• A new The Things You Never Notice series exploring the infrastructure people rarely notice but rely on every day
• Thought leadership on educational environments
• Community impact through a Tacoma Public Schools donation drive benefiting Franklin Elementary School

We're especially proud to partner with Tacoma Public Schools to support Franklin Elementary. After meeting with school leadership, we learned that many of the school's greatest needs extend beyond traditional school supplies and include items like headphones, clothing, hygiene products, food pantry supplies, and other essentials that help students arrive ready to learn.

Education is about more than buildings. It's about creating opportunities, supporting students, and strengthening communities.

We're looking forward to sharing those stories with you throughout September.

Last week, we had the pleasure of attending the ribbon cutting for the new Alki Elementary School. AHBL’s civil engineers supported the replacement school and modernization of the existing gymnasium, providing grading, storm drainage improvements, and enhancements to the outdoor play area located on Seattle Parks Department property. We are grateful to have been part of this transformative project and extend our thanks to Mahlum for the partnership that brought this community investment to fruition.

As students and educators prepare for the new school year, we’re also gearing up for something special. Throughout September, we'll be highlighting educational projects, sharing thought leadership, and running a donation drive for one of our local elementary schools. Stay tuned!

AHBL recently toured the new Lowell Elementary School, one of the final walkthroughs before students and staff make the space their own. We were proud to support the project with land use planning, civil engineering, and structural engineering services.

The school features exposed mass timber framing through use of cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels and glulam beams, creating warm and inviting spaces that support learning and connection to the greater outdoors. Nestled in Tacoma’s Old Town neighborhood, the school’s interior and exterior spaces compliment the surrounding landscape and community. We can’t wait to see students and staff bring this incredible new space to life.

It's always a pleasure to partner with BCRA and Korsmo Construction on K-12 projects that create inspiring learning environments for our communities. We're excited to celebrate this milestone further by joining the first day of school festivities on September 9 and welcoming students to their new school.

Supporting the communities we serve is at the heart of what we do. Our Spokane team recently volunteered with Integrus and the Spokane Public Library helping install accessible community gardens by building raised planter beds that will provide a welcoming space for residents to grow, learn, and connect.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us at the SAME Golf Tournament!

As a sponsor, we were excited to spend the day connecting with fellow attendees, sharing conversations on and off the course, and enjoying some friendly competition. Events like these are a great reminder of the strong relationships that make our industry and community so special.

Thank you to SAME Mount Tacoma post for hosting such a successful event and to all the participants who made the day memorable. We had a wonderful time and look forward to seeing everyone again soon!

Eight years in the making, Frontier Park's new horse arena cover is officially open!

Last Friday, community members gathered to celebrate the ribbon cutting of this exciting new amenity, which will provide year-round opportunities for park visitors, 4-H members, and equestrians.

AHBL was proud to partner with Shive-Hattery this 24,000 SF covered arena. Our structural engineers helped establish the design requirements for the pre-engineered metal canopy, while our civil engineering team designed the site improvements needed to bring the project to life, including drainage, erosion control, and stormwater management systems that support the long-term functionality and sustainability of the facility.

Congratulations to everyone who helped make this long-awaited community investment a reality!
