The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties held their Center for Community Impact (CCI) dinner at the Fircrest Golf Club last week. This event was a chance to celebrate and recognize young leaders, mentors, and community partners who are making a difference in their schools and communities, and Air Systems Engineering was honored to be a part of the evening.

CCI is the Y’s community outreach team. Partnering with local schools and organizations they work to provide critical social services, and outreach programs to vulnerable and underserved populations of youth and teens in our area. From meal programs to mentorship, leadership programs to juvenile justice – their services help ensure that everyone can flourish and reach their full potential. Just this year alone, CCI has helped more than 1,380 teens through these critical services.

Representing ASEI at the event were Mike Riggins, Mark and Susan Miller, Mary Munz, and Kevin and Stephanie Helling. Our partnership with the YMCA is meaningful to us and we are proud to contribute to such impactful programs.

Giving back to our community is especially important to Air Systems Engineering, and so we were honored to accept an invitation to attend The Tacoma Rescue Mission’s (TRM) “HopeGivers Celebration Dinner” held last month at Star Center in Tacoma.

This celebration dinner is an annual fundraising and community event hosted by nonprofit TRM to support its work with people experiencing homelessness, addiction, and poverty in Pierce County. The evening highlights stories of life change (often featuring testimonies from people who have been helped through TRM programs) and is a major annual-giving event that encourages donations, sponsorships, and ongoing support.

Tacoma Rescue Mission’s goal was to raise $220,000 however, the event brought in $264,300 displaying the generosity of our community to lift-up the lives of others.

In attendance to represent ASEI were Mike & Heather Riggins, Mark & Susan Miller, Amy Hamilton, Kevin & Stephanie Helling, and Mark & Lisa Casassa. We are proud of our partnership with TRM and our contribution to helping continue to support their work to change lives.

Air Systems Engineering was proud to help sponsor our friends at Goodwill for their “New Lives 2026 Event” last month.

Job skills are essential for success, yet many people in our community face barriers to obtaining the skills necessary for employment, such as poverty, disabilities, or lack of education. Goodwill’s “New Lives” funds programs that help people break through barriers so they can get jobs, start new careers, and build thriving livelihoods.

We are honored to be able to support Goodwill of Olympics & Rainier Region in their endeavor to bring hope, brighter futures, independence, and the confidence needed to change lives for those in our community.

TEAM BEHIND THE SCENES EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH FOR APRIL - Teresa Elmore, Service Billing/AP Specialist...

This month marks ten years that Teresa has been at ASEI. During this time, she has taken on so many roles and responsibilities that she no longer has just one primary position.

When she started in May of 2016, she was referred to as “Jay’s Savior” for taking over accounts payable. Today, she creates and closes purchase orders, enters accounts payable, supports service billings, and is learning the preventative maintenance contract administrator position; where she will create, update and maintain agreements. Teresa truly works behind the scenes, staying busy with just about anything that comes her way and being patient with all of us!

In and out of the office, Teresa is a big Seahawks fan, a great friend and a wonderful coworker. Thank you, Teresa—we appreciate everything you do!

APRIL SERVICE EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH - Darren Baugh, Service Technician...

We’re very excited to recognize Darren this month. He has been a fantastic addition since joining the ASEI team nearly three years ago. At sites like Franke Tobey Jones, he has built strong relationships with our customers, so much so that many of the residents know him and have even reached out to Franke Tobey Jones management to recognize him. Darren consistently reflects the values and standards that define ASEI’s culture. His clear communication, reliability, and steady approach to getting the job done right, are appreciated by customers and coworkers alike.

Darren approaches both service calls and maintenance work with a high level of attention to detail and ownership, with a firm belief in leaving things better for the next person. Our customers trust him because he takes time to understand the issues and ensure their systems are operating as they should before he leaves. He is always eager to expand his knowledge and learn more, and genuinely enjoys sharing that knowledge to support others.

Darren and his wife, Amanda, live locally and enjoy spending time together. They love watching classic TV and movies, as well as listening to music – especially from the pre-80s era. They also share a passion for treasure hunting, often searching for vintage records and DVDs.

Darren, thank you for your continued effort and the consistency you bring to both our team and our customers. We appreciate the work you do every day!

CONSTRUCTION EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH FOR APRIL -
Greg Thompson, Construction Field Supervisor...

Greg has been helping the team from many different angles, taking on multiple projects that are running at the same time: 3000 Northup, UFCW Hall, Costco Tire, and Five Below. He leads the charge in the field, working as site supervisor for not only ASEI but also on two projects for our sister company, Comfort Systems USA Northwest in Woodinville.

Greg’s been jumping in, learning the different procedures at Northwest – getting to know their projects and their team. He does this while making sure all projects stay on track and while keeping up on the day-to-day activities of his crew.

In Greg’s spare time he enjoys golfing, spending time with his family, and traveling.

We appreciate your hard work, Greg, and your willingness to dive into new things!

Our Service Projects Team is hard at work at Giaudrone Middle School in Tacoma, installing custom ventilation to keep their 3D printers and laser engravers running safely and smoothly.

Clean air = safer classrooms + better learning spaces for future engineers and designers!

Nothing like helping imagination take shape—without the fumes. 😎💨

TEAM BEHIND THE SCENES EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH FOR MARCH - John Brockes, Mechanical Engineer...

We're excited to recognize John as our March “Behind the Scenes” Employee of the Month. He was recently brought onboard to help bolster our design mechanical team and just passed his PE (Professional Engineer) exam to become licensed in Washington state.

John didn’t hesitate to jump into our current design workload and has been helping on projects such as the Talisman remodel, the Tacoma Rescue Mission expansion, St. Helens TI, and the Swyft mixed-use building. He has a great attitude and a can-do approach when it comes to his projects.

When not at the office, John enjoys spending time with his family. Welcome aboard John, we’re glad to have you

CONSTRUCTION EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH FOR MARCH -
Jeff Hamilton, Sheet Metal Installer...

Jeff Hamilton has been leading one of our larger projects in Tacoma for the past few months, always keeping ahead of schedule and collaborating seamlessly with the general contractor, framer, and sheetrock installer. His attentiveness to detail and work ethic allows the job to run as smoothly as possible.

Beyond his responsibilities at our 27th and Morrison site, Jeff has helped complete other projects through final installation and the balancing phase. Even taking it a step further to help one of our partners take on a new adventure in “learning to balance,” with Jeff's mentorship.

When not on the job, Jeff enjoys spending time with his wife Kim, and their daughter Penelope, getting in a round of golf, bowling, and hanging out with friends and family.

We’re fortunate to have you here, Jeff, and appreciate the multitude of things you do for ASEI!
