Warehouse workers experience musculoskeletal disorders at nearly 5x the rate of all private industry. And according to the 2025 Liberty Mutual Workplace Safety Index, overexertion injuries alone cost U.S. employers $13.7 billion per year.

Most of those injuries don't come from a single dramatic incident. They come from hundreds of small lifts where something was slightly off: a drum wasn't fully seated, the attachment wasn't verified, or the load path wasn't clear.

A pre-lift check takes 30 seconds. Here's what it should cover before every drum lift:
1. Confirm the drum type and weight match the handler's rated capacity
2. Inspect the attachment point for wear, cracks, or incomplete engagement
3. Verify the load path is clear of obstructions and personnel
4. Check that the drum surface is dry, clean, and free of damage that could affect grip
5. Ensure the forklift mast and carriage are stable before engaging the drum

That routine turns a reactive safety program into a proactive one. It also gives operators a structured pause before the lift, which is when most positioning errors happen.

When the right equipment is paired with a consistent pre-lift discipline, you reduce injuries at the point where they actually start: the moment before the drum leaves the ground.

🍨 Sundae Monday at Morse!

Yesterday's afternoon break was a little sweeter as employees came together to build their own ice cream sundaes and cool off on a hot summer day.

It's always great to take a few minutes to connect, enjoy some treats, and celebrate the people who make Morse what it is.

Is your drum handling process working as well as it could be?

Many facilities continue handling drums the same way they always have, even as safety expectations, labor availability, and productivity demands keep changing.

Take a quick look at your operation:
• Are drums still being tilted manually?
• Are forklifts being used for tasks they weren't designed to perform?
• Is dispensing product messy or inconsistent?
• Does moving drums require multiple people
• Are workers lifting, pushing, or pulling drums unnecessarily?

If you checked even one box, there may be a safer and more efficient solution.
Which drum handling challenge is the biggest obstacle in your facility today? Let us know in the comments or reach out to our team for expert support.

A record month calls for a celebration! 🌭🎉

Last week, the Morse team took a break to enjoy a well-deserved Hot Dog Day lunch after achieving a record month. President Nate Andrews stepped behind the grill in festive style, serving up hot dogs and coneys while employees gathered to enjoy lunch together.

From hot dogs and beans to watermelon and great conversation, it was a fun way to recognize the hard work and dedication that made this achievement possible.

Thank you to everyone on the Morse team for helping make it happen!
