Jake’s Shop Jake’s Shop is a small fab shop located in Sylva, NC. It isn’t an LLC yet, however it is in the works once business goals are met.

Jake’s Shop offers small scale machining, welding, fabrication, and rebuilding of various steam powered equipment.

I know it has been a while since the last update. The past few months, the shop has been busy helping a customer with having their boiler certified to run under North Carolina state boiler code. The shop aided with the procedures needed for the internal inspection of the boiler to which it passed and is ready to test fire. Update within the shop this week, disassembly is still going on, but almost complete. check valves on the water side have been removed and look to be in good shape. Also inspected the slide valve portion, the slide valves, and their rods to which are in good condition. I also started looking at the hydrostatic lubricator and it’s valves. For the engine to have sat in the mountains in West Virginia for decades, it is a very clean engine. Once the piston rods are removed, the cleaning of every part will be under way as well as the making of new piston rings. Stay tuned for further updates!

Jake’s Shop just started on July 15 this year. The first project is a personal project, rebuilding a Worthington steam powered water pump. there will be weekly updates on this project and others when more work is needed to bd done.
