A common question we get is: Can you leave your mower deck installed while using your loader?

For almost all tractor models we build for (except the 400, 420, and 430), the answer is yes! Because the hydraulic lever that controls your mower deck also controls your bucket tilt, here are two simple ways to manage it:

1) Install a Lockout Valve: This locks out the deck hydraulics so all power goes strictly to operating your loader.

2) Crank Your Deck High: If you don't want to install a lockout valve, simply crank your mower deck to its highest height setting. This minimizes hydraulic lag so your bucket stays responsive.

Today on the shop floor, we’re putting one of our workhorse (very grubby) test tractors to use to demonstrate installing a rear weight bar on a John Deere 300-series.

Proper ballast weight is vital for both loader performance and operator safety. Running a front-end loader without rear counterweight puts unnecessary strain on your machine and compromises stability.

Make sure your tractor is properly weighted before your next big property project! (hint: snow ❄️)
