The California Resources Corporation (CRC) and Carbon TerraVault (CTV) just got the green light for the state’s first-ever carbon capture and storage (CCS) project at the Elk Hills gas plant in Kern County. This project is set to store up to 38 million tons of CO2—equivalent to taking 300,000+ cars off the road each year! 🚗💨

At AED, we see CCS as a critical step forward in cutting emissions while supporting industries like oil & gas, energy, and manufacturing. Pairing CCS with other innovations—like energy optimization and electrification—can help drive a more sustainable future while also creating more job opportunities for Americans in emerging green industries and revitalizing local economies.

At AED, alongside our Allied Resources Group (ARG) sister companies, we’re proud to support our nation's midstream oil and gas industry by delivering results that matter. Recently, AED partnered with a U.S.-based midstream organization on a series of projects to deliver laser scanning and detailed design for butane blending storage and related systems. Scope varied by location, but most systems included butane storage vessels, offloading stations, pumps, d**e relocation, piping, racks, and permitting services.

hashtag captures precise 3D data of existing infrastructure, reducing errors, preventing costly rework, and speeding up timelines while enhancing the safety aspect by minimizing the need for onsite personnel in hazardous areas! Plus, detailed models ensure regulatory compliance, making laser scanning a vital tool for successful project ex*****on.

⚠️ No matter the project though, one thing always takes priority: safety. It's at the core of everything we do—especially in sensitive facilities like butane blending storage, where careful design and ex*****on are crucial to safeguarding people, the environment, and infrastructure.

With Allied Resources Group's deep roots in the industry, we’re excited to continue making an impact together in our growing energy infrastructure!

A recent article highlights the immense potential of electrifying industrial process heat to slash emissions. Industrial process heat—essential for sectors like steel, cement, and petrochemical production—currently accounts for about 20% of global energy demand and contributes roughly a third of all greenhouse gas emissions. But, with the right technology, this could change.

🔋 What to know:

- Huge Potential for Electrification: 62% of process heat could be electrified using available technologies. This could increase to 90% within the next decade as new solutions come online.

- Technologies Available Today: Heat pumps and electric boilers are market-ready solutions for low-temperature processes (100–300°C). Heat pumps, for example, provide a significant efficiency advantage by recycling waste heat.

- Tailored Approaches for High-Temperature Needs: For processes requiring temperatures above 1000°C, like steel and ammonia production, technologies such as electric resistance heaters are critical.

However, electrification is just one piece of the decarbonization puzzle. To fully transform industries, we need a holistic strategy that incorporates a mix of solutions—such as green hydrogen, carbon capture technologies, and renewable energy integration. By combining these approaches, we can create an ecosystem that meets diverse industrial needs while slashing emissions and advancing the world toward a more sustainable future!

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced over $127 million in federal funding to accelerate the development of carbon capture, removal, and conversion technologies for power plants and cement manufacturing facilities. 🌍 This is a critical step toward achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

As the energy and capital costs associated with carbon capture remain a barrier, this funding will support test centers to research and scale these technologies. AED is proud to be an engineering firm serving industries like power generation, chemical, and industrial manufacturing, so we understand how critical these advancements are to reducing CO₂ emissions and achieving net-zero goals by 2050. This investment in test centers represents a step forward in making carbon management more economical and sustainable, directly benefiting the sectors we support.
