Performing regular maintenance on your Hamer 125 Wire Tie Bag Closer is essential for keeping your operations running smoothly. With repeated use, the clutch can fall out of sync, resulting in poorly shaped staples that may cause bags to be sealed incorrectly. Hamer recommends checking your clutch timing regularly to ensure it is working properly.

Automatic ICE™ Systems has released a new video in the Knowledge Base section of our website and on our YouTube channel, which covers the procedure for adjusting clutch timing on a Hamer 125 machine.

This video is part of our Video Tutorials playlist, a helpful resource for our customers. It includes essential tips and tricks for our equipment, featuring insights from technicians, engineers, and other experienced professionals in the packaged ice industry.

Steps to fix your Hamer 125's Clutch Timing:

Step 1: Test the Hamer 125.
Step 2: Confirm the wire feed wheel (HAM-2017) is not aligned with the timing mark.
Step 3: For safety, unplug the machine.
Step 4: With a flathead screwdriver, slide the retaining ring on the clutch cam upward as far as possible on the clutch sleeve (HAM-2051ZA).
Step 5: Slide the clutch cam upward from the bottom until it clears the actuator lever (HAM-2051-2B). Make sure it is loose.
Step 6: Rotate the wire feed wheel (HAM-2017) almost a full rotation, then align with the timing mark.
Step 7: Lower the cam into position and reinstall the retaining ring.
Step 8: Plug in the Hamer 125 and test its operation.
Step 9: Verify the wire feed wheel (HAM-2017) remains aligned with the timing mark.

A few weeks ago, AIS attended the IPIA (International Packaged Ice Association) Grand Event in Nashville, Tennessee. This premier international association of packaged ice producers and industry suppliers welcomed members from around the world. AIS had a commanding, all-new display and presentation, modeled after a concert venue, to support the event's music theme. We were joined by industry partners: Coalza Systems, AirData, and TIBOPAK. In addition, our retired former president, Don Carpenter, even joined us and spent time with many old friends and clients.

We help open the Grand Event as a Gold Sponsor. From the opening to the final meeting, attendees had the opportunity to learn and deepen their understanding of this ever-evolving industry. The AIS Team was busy day and night with client meetings, events, and socializing with friends in this vibrant, music-filled city. We had an overwhelming number of positive discussions with ice producers and distributors. This industry recognizes the value we bring to our clients' success, and many are now reaching out to us for our products and services. We hope to build partnerships with many of these producers and grow together into the future.

Thanks to all the people who worked hard to make this event a success, including IPIA Board Member and AIS International Sales Manager Mike Carpenter. We look forward to building relationships, improving client operations, and creating future success stories for ice producers not just in the USA but throughout the world. Automated Palletizing Solutions
Ogden, Utah

We recently returned from another successful automated ice bag palletizing system commissioning. The project went as planned. We off-loaded the equipment late Monday morning and had everything assembled and in place before the end of the day.

On Tuesday morning, we focused on integration wiring and any remaining installation details, and by Tuesday afternoon, we began testing the equipment.

On Wednesday morning, we concentrated on setting up the client's preferred stacking patterns and pallet configurations while optimizing system operations. By Wednesday afternoon, the client was operating their new palletizing system. We then spent the next two days training the client's operations crew while maintaining full operations.

This was the first automated palletizing system purchased by this client, and the client was pleased with their new SA2 Automatic ICE™ Palletizing System. The client was also very impressed by our team, the fast commissioning, the simplistic operations, and the reliable performance of our custom palletizing solution.

While on-site in Ogden, Utah, we enjoyed the best views ever seen from an ice plant and even caught the last snow of the season. The historic town was fantastic, and the people there were super friendly. We hope to return to this facility in the near future to install a second automated palletizing solution.

A Friendly Reminder Regarding Preventative Maintenance

Is your company as ready as it can be for the busy ice season? Take the time to thoroughly complete preventative maintenance (PM) on all your equipment. Follow the manufacturer guidelines and add to these guidelines through experience. Thoroughly inspect all conveying equipment for signs of wear and make any necessary repairs to ensure the best operational condition. Take note of what caused operational downtime and frustration in the past and see to it that it does not happen again. If you have questions or concerns, AIS is here to help.

If your company operates Hamer packaging and wire closing machines, pay extra attention to these highly mechanical assets. We recommend that 125 closers be completely rebuilt every 1 million closures and that all high-volume operations thoroughly inspect and completely rebuild all mechanical components in their Hamer FFS packaging equipment annually.

2024's prime summer season is behind us. It was a busy year that demanded a lot from many packaged ice producers. With factories running on overdrive, every small operational disruption has piled on to make daily manufacturing operations more challenging than expected. It has become apparent that many facilities are just getting by until things slow down, with many issues that need to be addressed before next year. Most have waited until now to fix these problems.

Hamer 125 Rebuilds
Automatic ICE™ Systems offers Hamer 125 rebuild services by factory-certified technicians in our Hamer shop.

Our skilled technicians will break down your unit and evaluate each component. The technician will then put together a cost estimate and call to discuss the proposed work. Upon customer approval, each individual part will be cleaned and inspected. All worn or damaged parts will be replaced, and the unit reassembled to factory specifications. We will then test the rebuilt unit for reliable operation and make any necessary adjustments. Upon completion, your unit will be properly packaged and returned to you in a factory crate with a 30-day parts warranty.
