West African soy has a competitive advantage that most markets cannot replicate — non-GMO traceability at scale.

As global buyers increasingly seek verified non-GMO oilseeds, Nigeria's soybean sector holds a natural advantage. Nigerian soybeans are non-GMO by default — and that traceability has real market value in export markets that demand it.

Realizing that value requires closing the gap between production potential and processing capacity. Low yields, underdeveloped infrastructure, and limited access to improved seed varieties remain real barriers. But with government policy, improved genetics, and investment in processing equipment all moving in the right direction, the outlook for West African soy is improving.

Getting the extraction side right is where processors can make the most immediate impact.

A well-maintained press is a productive one.

Our rebuild services restore equipment to OEM standards using original parts, specialized tooling, and the same expertise that built the machines in the first place. Whether it is wear parts, a full rebuild, or ongoing parts support, we keep operations running without unnecessary interruption.

Equipment that lasts decades is not an accident. It is a service commitment.

In oilseed processing, small variables produce large consequences.

Moisture content going into the press affects how well oil releases from the seed. Temperature during conditioning determines how effectively proteins denature. Even slight inconsistencies in feed rate can shift residual oil levels in the meal.

These are not minor adjustments. They are the variables that experienced processors monitor closely — because optimizing each one is how you move from acceptable recovery to excellent recovery.

Consistency in the input variables is the foundation of consistency in the output.

West Africa’s soybean market continues to grow, but key barriers still limit its full potential. Lower yields, inconsistent farming practices, and gaps in processing infrastructure all play a role.

Addressing these challenges takes coordination—improved crop development, better on-farm practices, policy support, and investment in processing capacity.

That last piece is critical. As production increases, efficient, reliable processing systems are essential to capture value and maintain quality.

This is where Anderson focuses—supporting processors with proven systems designed for consistency, durability, and long-term performance in complex operating environments.

Nigeria produces 1.35 million metric tonnes of soybeans per year. Domestic demand is more than double that.

Nigeria is the second largest soybean producer in Africa — but its current output only covers about half of domestic demand, which exceeds 2.7 MMT annually. That gap is not just a supply challenge. It is a processing opportunity.

Feed demand for poultry, a growing aquaculture sector facing a 2 MMT feed deficit, and rising consumption of soybean oil are all pulling in the same direction. The Nigerian government has also introduced a National Soybean Production and Expansion Policy aimed at adding 460,000 MT of production by 2027.

The infrastructure to capture that value is still being built — and that is exactly where the opportunity lies.

Nigeria’s soybean strategy is scaling fast—but it’s designed to close a gap, not just grow output.

A recent report from ChemAnalyst highlights Nigeria’s plan to double soybean farmland by 2027 as part of a broader push to reduce edible oil imports and improve food security.

The strategy targets a significant supply gap—where current production (about 1.35 MMT) falls well short of demand exceeding 2.7 MMT, driven by food, feed, and industrial use.

It also emphasizes coordinated investment across seeds, mechanization, and market access—not just acreage expansion.

Growth in West Africa wasn’t limited by demand—it was limited by biology.

For years, soybean production in West Africa faced a fundamental challenge: the crop struggled to adapt to local growing conditions.

Soybeans rely on specific soil bacteria to fix nitrogen. In many African soils, that biology simply wasn’t present.

The result? Low yields, inconsistent performance, and limited commercial viability.

Progress came through targeted breeding. New varieties were developed to mature earlier, resist disease, and work with local soil conditions—improving both yield stability and overall productivity.

It’s a clear example of how aligning crop science with real-world conditions can unlock growth across an entire region.

Biofuel demand is reshaping what Canadian canola processors are being asked to produce — and how they need to operate.

Historically, Canadian oilseeds fed food and livestock markets. That is still true — but industrial demand is adding a new dimension to the equation.

Clean fuel mandates across North America are driving increased demand for vegetable oil as a biodiesel and renewable diesel feedstock. Canadian canola, with its established production base and processing infrastructure, is well-positioned to serve that market at scale.

The processors who benefit most will be those with equipment versatile enough to handle canola, soybeans, and other oilseeds — and efficient enough to remain competitive as end-use markets continue to shift.
