A customer called last week asking for our cheapest mini excavator rate. He wanted to save money on stump removal.

Today we were onsite making a repair to a KRT after it threw a track.

Before you rent a dozer for root work, understand what job you actually need to accomplish

The biggest disaster with dozers doesn't come from the machine being too small.

It comes from using it beyond its intended scope.

I've seen hydraulic cylinders bent and broken which = $1000's in repairs. Same reason every time.

Customer used the corner of the blade to remove large stumps.

Exactly what I told them not to do.

The 550K dozer is built for root raking and finish grading. Not stump removal.

For serious stump work, you need an excavator.

The LGP tracks on the 550K give you good flotation in sandy soil.

But they won't save you from operator error.

Stay within the machine's limits and it'll handle most root raking jobs just fine.

Push beyond them and you're looking at expensive repairs.

Backhoes can dig and move material.

Excavators are specialty digging machines.

Backhoes are multi use tools but sacrifice efficiency.

Trackhoes are efficient diggers. Compact track loaders are efficient material movers.

Here's how to choose between a trencher and excavator for power line installation

The rental rate for trenching equipment can seem expensive for a short power line run.

I've had customers question whether they really need equipment for what looks like a hundred feet or less.

Here's what changes their mind. Physical exhaustion.

Digging a trench deep enough for power line burial in Florida heat is brutal work. By hand, you're looking at backbreaking labor that takes all day.

The equipment pays for itself in the first hour.

When you factor in time, exhaustion, and back aches, the rental is well worth the expense. Even for short runs.
