It started with a pencil sketch—and one very specific question.

How do you ensure the capitals on existing round columns and new site-built square and rectangular pilasters maintain the same projection beyond the surrounding bulkhead?

During this renovation, the architect revised the proportions of the column capital. The corresponding pilaster components must match that profile, but the depth needed to build out the pilasters still had to be determined.

Using the architectural drawings, ITC created a scaled 3D sample to help the project team—including the skilled artisans at Envision Millwork, Inc—evaluate the profile and resolve that critical dimension before the custom components are milled.

Created in days rather than weeks, 3D samples provide a precise, tangible reference without the setup costs or delays of a traditionally milled sample.

It’s one more way ITC combines specialized knowledge, practical resources, and collaborative problem-solving to help move complex millwork projects forward with greater confidence.

A small sample designed to answer an important question before it reaches the jobsite.

Made to Match | The story behind this remodel project with T G A Renovated began in April, when we made custom tooling to match this existing casing profile as part of a larger millwork package for the home.

For this casing, something close was not going to be close enough.

Milled in Poplar, the 4-1/4" profile features a simulated backband, convex center body, beaded shoulder, clean flat, and a shallow ogee along the inside edge. Each element works together to give the casing its distinctive depth and character.

The difference here is not simply that the casing is custom. It is the ability to study an original sample, recreate the profile accurately, produce it in the lengths the project requires, and help the new millwork feel consistent with what is already in the home.

That level of matching matters in a remodel. The finished work should not look like an addition or an approximation. It should look like it belongs.

Mahogany does not come through the door nearly as often as it once did—but when it does, it still stops you in your tracks. 😊

Used in construction for centuries, mahogany earned its reputation through more than good looks. Its dimensional stability, natural resistance to rot, and deep reddish-brown color made it a lasting choice for exceptional homes and finely crafted interiors.

Today, it is used more selectively, but that may be part of what makes it feel so special. Even unfinished, this material has warmth, depth, and a presence that is difficult to replicate.
