Process Control Optimization via Vibration Analysis
TIPs:
- Establish a solid vibration data baseline when the equipment is operating at its best-known state.
- Take measurements in horizontal, vertical, and axial directions to get a full, 3D picture of the machinery's movement.
- Many vibration issues are proportional to, or harmonics of, this speed.
- Use FFT to convert raw time-domain data into a spectrum. This allows you to identify specific, "root cause" frequencies (e.g., 1x for imbalance, 2x for misalignment) rather than just looking at overall amplitude.
- An absolute vibration limit is less useful than a rising trend over time.
- Use modal analysis to identify and avoid operating speeds close to the machine's structural natural frequency.
- Use 24/7 vibration monitoring for critical assets.
And this one is my favorite...
- Use AI-driven, automated analysis software integrated into your CMMS to generate work orders automatically when thresholds are crossed.
