Got a call from the Harrison racing team about 6 weeks ago asking if I would be interested in coming to help them run the I-44 winter shootout. I probably would've declined normally but they had acquired my old kinetik kart and wanted to make a run in the Nick Bradshaw memorial race so I was in. Friday we put ourselves in good starting spots for all 3 races entered but couldn't catch a break keeping the chain on so we had 3 DNFs. Saturday was better but still had work to do. Started front row outside for the memorial races and got to finish it after a freight train on the start Carter was able to rally back to a 4th place finish. We had just 2 features between the memorial race and pro stock appearing it took alot of hustle and parts swapping but got him back to the grid just in time and was able to finish another race and get 3rd. He got hit several times in the helmet and shoulder with some wheel hops and even broke his seat and didn't quit. For a kid that had ran about 30 laps total in a kart, I was impressed. I had a great time and the whole Harrison family are great people and showed me good hospitality all weekend.

Made the trip up to electric city this weekend. We had a little bit more of stress-free trip running one class with two drivers was much easier than running two classes with one driver we really didn't have a whole lot of time in between the first time we went. However it was much easier this time luckily there was lots of family members that came up to help. My nephew ran Jr 1 heavy and did a really good job he kept his pace and was actually the second fastest go-kart all night unfortunately he is still very new on how to pass people so we have some a few things to learn on that front but we will get there. For only four karts they had a great heat race they were all within two carts of each other side by side the whole time he kept getting chopped every time he was making a pass or getting slowly ran into the infield which is pretty typical of the younger age groups and honestly sometimes even the adults. Regardless I have instructed him on how to do it and hopefully he can go through and watch a few races and really see what I'm talking about he ended up running third in his feature and he was super happy to get his medal and money.

As far as the big motor goes I never did get to find my 14 or 15 tooth driver so we put on The Little Engine That Could (my back yard kart motor) TMS karts allowed me to borrow a good carburetor and set me up with some springs for our our drum clutch and started last in the heat race of 5 karts in open class and won and then started on the pole in the feature had a couple cautions kept the tire scrubbed in and was able to get good starts and get away from the guys that had to get horsepower and get through the center of the corner and by the end of the race he was win by over half a track pull start and drum clutch Dylan Bates Racing can literally wheel anything. The big motor will get put back on and late September we will give it a go again. Thanks for everyone that helps us keep burnimg circles.

It took lots of work to get the 25-year-old go-kart ready to hit the track glad I was able to take it slow for a little while but it snuck up on me but I'm also glad and that I have good, family and friends that could help me finish it.

Made the trip to emma raceway yesterday. Had a pretty good time track was smooth and fast but one thing I've learned about karting is you CAN have too many classes. After arrival I remembered I forgot my transponder pouch but it took 1.5 hours to wait in registration and my wife is real crafty so she went to work and busted out 2 transponder pouches saved us $20. The heat race I won by default and put me on the pole for the feature. Lead a couple laps and got passed putting me in last (only 2 of us) I tried to stay smooth and stay close cuz emma has alot of grip and will take it out of you. Lap 17 I was able to show a nose on the inside then coming to the white I got the lead back and the checkered flag. Thanks to my beautiful wife for helping load, unload, start ups, and transponder pouch. Trevor for loaning me a motor and clutch, TMS Karts for hp and knowledge. Done with indoor racing time to tear the karts down and get ready for outdoor season.

Doing a little kart maintenance in the off season while there is time. This video shows how to remove the inner steel retainers on new rear bearings so you can service them. I still get calls and questions on this very topic 2-3 times a year. This sport is hard one and can frustrate beginners, anything to help people out I will try. If there is enough interest I may continue to do small segments like this when i can squeeze them in. Thanks and Merry Christmas!
