There are some problems only tillage can solve. But too much tillage causes problems of its own. Shallow tillage cultivates only the top 1-2 inches of soil to prepare a seedbed, control weeds, manage residue, and accelerate decomposition without destroying the soil structure and losing valuable moisture.
