Our mission includes the advancement of the Land Surveying Profession by promoting high standards of practice and conduct, by upholding the Illinois Land Surveyors Act and by supporting and encouraging members through continuing education, professional association, and the use of current technology.

This Independence Day, we recognize the important role surveying played in the founding of the United States.

Several signers of the Declaration of Independence — including Thomas Jefferson, Roger Sherman, Abraham Clark, John Morton, and Stephen Hopkins — had backgrounds in surveying. George Washington was also a surveyor, viewing the profession as both honorable and essential to the growth of the nation.

From defining boundaries to supporting expansion and development, surveying helped shape America from the very beginning — and continues to shape our communities today.
