This 2001 Chevy Silverado came in with a completely dead gauge cluster.

When tested on the bench, the cluster powered up normally — which told us the issue wasn’t the cluster itself. The root cause was a disconnected ground, a common issue on these trucks.

Bench testing helps us separate wiring problems from actual cluster failures before making repair decisions.

Another classic W140 issue on the bench today 👇

This 1994 Mercedes S500 came in with the odometer completely dead while the speedometer still worked. On these 1991–1999 clusters, that usually points to an internal failure, not the speed sensor.

We hooked it up to our signal generator to confirm the problem, repaired the odometer circuit, and verified accurate counting before reassembly.

If both the speedometer *and* odometer are out, always check the speed sensor and wiring first — it’ll save time and guesswork.
