A lot of homeowners ask us what the difference is between quarry rock and river rock. Well not only is it the major color difference… it’s also the shape, function, and how it performs. Any guesses what rock is quarry in this photo?

Quarry rock is crushed, angular rock that locks together tighter. Making it great for driveways, pathways, base rock, drainage, and structural applications.

River rock is naturally rounded and smoother from years of water erosion, giving it a cleaner decorative look for landscaping, dry creek beds, planter areas, and accent features. But can also be used as a cheaper alternative to quarry for driveways, base rock etc.

One is built more for stability. The other is built more for aesthetics. Both have their place, it just depends on the project.
