A portable fire extinguisher is only useful when your team knows when—and whether—to use it.

In manufacturing, fire safety training should go beyond locating the nearest extinguisher. Employees need to understand workplace fire hazards, which extinguisher is appropriate, and how to follow the facility’s emergency action plan. We are grateful for the training by Clearcreek Fire District, Springboro OH.

Practical training helps your team:
• Recognize hazards and report them early.
• Understand who is authorized to use an extinguisher.
• Use the appropriate equipment for a small, early-stage fire only when trained, authorized, and safe to do so.
• Know when to evacuate rather than attempt to fight a fire.

Regular refreshers reinforce safe decisions. Where extinguishers are provided for employee use, OSHA requires initial education and at least annual refreshers, with equipment training for designated users.

The priority is always people—not equipment or production. Raise the alarm, follow emergency procedures, and never let an extinguisher attempt delay a safe evacuation.
